@Hypatia: I’m glad you liked your album! For myself I always use the color correction, because even though I edit my photos, I found the first album I made without it, everything turned out a little duller/darker than I would’ve liked. Also, you can get 100 pages because I’ve done it a few times. It’s weird, I looked at the site and when your looking at the pricing it says to 76 but in the actual photo editor you can add up to 100.

I just wanted to update to say that I received a 20 page album with glossy pages from Adoramapix, and I love it! Some thoughts:

- the photo quality is superb (MUCH better than Shutterfly, which I was disappointed with last year)
- the glossy pages are very similar to the super gloss I used with MyPublisher--but they also have lustre and other options if you prefer a different finish
- the cover is well made (more sturdy and professional than MyPublisher)
- placing text on the spine is not intuitive, and it could be a bit of a guessing game as you don't know exactly how thick the spine will be depending on the number of pages (mine turned out okay, though)
- I like that you can have the logo removed for $2
- the layflat pages without a gutter are fantastic
- they have a very similar landscape size to MyPublisher's old standard sizes
- I decided to do a 10x10 square album instead, and I love that size!
- they have themes (travel, journal, etc.) that you can customize with text if you're into that
- color correction is on by default, unless you turn it off while doing the ordering process; I didn't realize this and would have turned it off if I had known, because I have had poor results with color correction in the past with other companies. With that said, the colors all turned out fine and true to the photos I uploaded, so I'm on the fence about what I'll do for future orders.

The only real drawback I've found is that their albums max out at 76 pages (vs. 99 pages with MyPublisher). And the pages are slightly thicker, so you're going to have thicker albums taking up more space on your shelves than with MyPublisher.

As far as pricing, I had coupons for free shipping and 20% off, so the cost of my 20 page album was about $60. Since they don't run nearly as many promotions as MyPublisher, I'll have to build our year book album in January and then keep checking back for sales.

@Hypatia: Just a heads up, I don’t think I’ve ever seen coupons for much more than 25% off, and those are few and far between. However, they are under new management as of this past summer so maybe that will change.

@Aria: Thanks!

I’ve looked at all the options listed so far, and I think I’m going to go with Adoramapix. They offer a layflat 8x10 in high gloss paper, which will probably be the closest to MyPublisher. They also offer three different cover types (picture, leather or linen). They have themes available (travel, family, wedding, etc) which is neat. The pages are more stiff than I prefer, but it checks every other box on my list. I’m hoping I can wait for a 40% coupon to bring the price down. Thanks, guys! I’ll try to remember to report back on it when I get it in January.

@MrsBucky: YES! Someone who understands! I chose Mypublisher nc they'd been in business like 18 years. And all our yearly albums matched until last year.

I made our wedding album and 5 yearly family albums on my publisher and was frustrated when they went out of business. I don’t like Shutterfly- I find the quality poor. I have made the last two years with mixbook and will make this years on there as well. I like the software but feel a bit mixed on the end result. I don’t like the cover options as well and the printing is mostly good. I haven’t wanted to try new services because I was already grumpy that now they don’t all match (I’m insane I know) but I may try blurb next year depending on how this year turns out.

@Foodnerd81: Thanks. I actually just found my book still in their "saved projects". I never checked to see if it was gone or not. So I don't really know what their deletion notices were about but I edited out my misinformation in my post above. Mpix allows all the same edits, they are just time consuming.

@brownepiano: I think you can do that with Mixbook, and I know you can have something in your cart for a long time- I waited weeks for a good sale. You can edit any of their pre-set layouts (make the pictures bigger or change the shape or add one- I never tried to start from actually blank.

Not to hijack but does anyone know of a photobook where you can just set the background to something simple (ie: black) and still edit the layout of each page (ie no auto fill)? Mpix was driving me nut having to edit background and font for every single page.

ETA: ok I'm an idiot and checked again- all black IS a theme you can choose at the beginning. That was half my gripe with MPix. I'll probably stick with them because I like the company as a whole and their quality.

I've used shutterfly, mypublisher, mpix, and I think one other one. I LOVE the quality of mpix. I try to wait for a sale but they announce their 40% off sales with about 3 days lead time which isn't enough for me.

@erinbaderin: FYI they have plenty of free shipping options around the holidays. But I find it very annoying to have to wait around for the best codes. The best deals I saw were 50% off and free shipping, or I think it was like 40% off plus a free upgrade to lay flat pages.

I just used Mixbook, and had mixed feelings. The software was easy to use and I was happy with how it turned out. It was really expensive, although admittedly I was going with a big product - the 11x14 book, 99 pages, was going to cost over $300 if they hadn’t had a 50% off sale. I also thought for that price I should have gotten free shipping, or at least a tracking number, and then the first one went missing and they had to send a second. Ultimately it’s a decent product although like @Foodnerd81 I find that the pictures don’t seem as bright or vibrant (or sharp) as the MyPublisher product.

Young House Love did a post about this and chose Blurb, which they were equally satisfied with.
https://www.younghouselove.com/family-photo-books/

I haven’t personally tried Blurb and never used My Publisher though. I’ve been using Mixbook and find them much much better than Shutterfly. I have gotten the regular pages and was happy with them, and I got a lay flat one last year which is really sturdy, but the pages aren’t shiny and the pictures don’t seem quite as bright and vibrant- this could DEFINITELY be related to the fact that I made the regular album from pro photos and the lay flat one from I phone photos! The layouts are good but i did find myself getting frustrated that there weren’t more layouts with more vertical photos. I haven’t decided if I’ll do Mixbook again or try Blurb this year.

ETA: Mixbook always has big coupons if you can wait a bit- like 40-50% off.

We used Mypublisher for years, and we loved the quality. When they went out of business last year, we tried Shutterfly. I'm not loving it. Are there any album companies out there similar to Mypublisher?

What I liked about Mypublisher:

Layflat pages
Great photo quality
Thick pages that were laminated
The option to remove the album logo
Easily make a 100 page book

With Shutterfly, I felt the print quality wasn't up to par, and I didn't like the thickness or feel of the pages.

Any suggestions are welcome! I usually try to start working on our yearly album in late October so we can finish in time for new years sales.
