Instead of parroting make an appointment. These were L&amp;D nurses, not some non-pregnancy related ones. At my hospital I had a hard time the first time I went even though I had a referral because I didnt know the department I was looking for was called PERINATAL rather than pre-natal. It's sooo early. </p> <p>When I was pregnant with my first I always brought all these crazy L&amp;D questions to my doctor in my first and early second trimester and she told me to just calm down. And I'm glad she did! A friend of mine went through them a few years ago. And if not, it's easy to say "We don't have prenatal care, just L&amp;D. I've been to the prenatal area of one before getting pregnant, and they gave me all sorts of info. So I tried to check out the other. I walk in. I ask where prenatal care might be. I get directed to L&amp;D. I get up there, tell them I was misdirected, and asked where I might be able to ask some questions on prenatal care. I'm directed to 4 nurses who are literally just sitting there twiddling their thumbs.</p> <p>"Where might prenatal care be?"<br /> "Oh, are you looking for a patient?"<br /> "No, I'm pregnant, and I want to ask some questions."<br /> "Oh, how far along are you?"<br /> "Only 4 1/2 weeks, I'm just trying to do a little research."<br /> "Well, you can book an appointment with one of our doctors and they can get you started!"<br /> "Well, I'm LOOKING for the gynecology department so I can ask some basic questions."<br /> "You should call and book an appointment with a doctor!"<br /> "I have an appointment with my primary care provider tomorrow, and she'll refer me to one of two hospitals for prenatal care, and I want to ask some questions here before I talk to her."<br /> "Book an appointment with a doctor."<br /> "I have an appointment with MY doctor, but I want to be sure which hospital is the right one for me before she gives me a referral."<br /> "Oh, well, book an appointment with one of our doctors."<br /> "I want to ask some questions HERE about prenatal care before that. Where might I go?"<br /> "Book an appointment with a doctor."<br /> "No, I'm likely to be referred either here or another hospital. I can't just book an appointment. Well, call this number, and they'll sort out your insurance so you can book an appointment."<br /> "Where are prenatal appointments held?"<br /> "Book an appointment with a doctor."</p> <p>So... all of your prenatal appointments happen at patients' homes? In the L&amp;D department? In a broom cupboard you're not allowed to talk about? I want to talk to the gyno or family practice or whatever you call it nurses or receptionists, and I need to know WHERE they are to do that. Why would I trust you with the care of my unborn child if you can't grasp the concept of directions? </p>
