@KelLeeLeee: I get why he was knocking now too, but even if he didn't think it would scare me, it was still super rude. At the time it made no sense and I just thought it was an intruder. Hindsight is always 20/20 I guess.

@blackbird: I guess I just think the more rational solution would have been a simple phone call. That I would have heard right away. And knocking is a lot different than aggressive pounding.

@ChiCalGoBee: Right? He's obviously a little cuckoo. He even came up and knocked while the plumber was there today. He couldn't wait for the plumber to finish and tell him what was wrong. Thank god DH was home or I probably would have yelled at him again. Some people just have NO boundaries!

And a side note, I think we can agree that being pregnant or having a child makes you experience everything much differently.

@MrsHansen82: What the what? How about "excuse me miss, there is water leaking" rather than door pounding?! Or even slipping a note under the door?

Lol I think it's safe to say nobody handled this situation with a clear head. People knock a decent amount when I'm home, I just ask them what they want and tell them to go away

@MrsHansen82: I would have been freaked out too. I agree with @hotchildinthecity: that I understand pounding to try and get your attention if you were in the other room or whatever, but why not shout "hey it's the guy from downstairs my ceiling is leaking!" I actually just had a leak in my condo and ran upstairs and knocked (like a normal person) on their door. If they hang answered my knocking I would have called in to try to get their attention.

@hotchildinthecity: I guess when you're in the moment and feeling threatened there is a lot of thoughts that go through your head. It's hard to think clearly. I was alone and not mention buck naked so I felt especially vulnerable. My door is kinda junky, so it wouldn't take much prying to pop it open. At the time, it all made sense in my head: the rapist knows I'm showering and he's going to come in no matter what. Maybe that's irrational, but when you're scared sh*tless it's hard to make sense of the situation. We're moving to a better neighborhood in a month, so hopefully I'll be able to feel better about being home alon.

Emergency plumbers/water cleanup workers handle all kinds of situations. My mom just had to call one for a flood she caused herself from leaving the water on.

@MrsHansen82: an emergency plumber wouldnt help though if it was from your running water...as for the landlord, wouldnt they just try to get ahold of you as well?

I feel you, my neighborhood isnt the safest either, and when i first moved into my apartment, people buzzed us day and night looking for the previous tenants. But if you're behind your locked door, you're pretty much safe! (I dont know what your window access to the street is)

@hotchildinthecity @sandy: Not afraid of my neighbors, just afraid of the creepy people who troll around my neighborhood and go through my garbage at night. I've been harassed before, so it's not like I was just afraid to talk to my neighbor. If I thought for a second it could be him, I would have opened the door or said something. But my apartment is upstairs, there's no lights right outside and it would be very easy for someone to come in unseen if I opened the door. I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want them to know I was home if they didn't already. I'm sorry, but if there's a leak, you can call an emergency plumber or the landlord. I don't mind that he tried to contact me, but pounding on my door for 15 minutes is excessive and harassing.

@sandy: i agree that he was probably pounding so you could hear it over the shower.

I just would have called out: "who is it?" I have three deadbolts on my door. No one's getting in there by pounding ;)

@hotchildinthecity: I was thinking the same thing. I hate that we live in a time where we're afraid of our neighbors and are afraid to open our door. If it was late and I was home alone and someone was pounding on my door I would have shouted "I've called the cops - what do you want?!?!" So at least the person would leave or identify themselves

@MrsHansen82: sorry you don't feel safe and that just sucks that you were so scared. And that's awful about the cops.

@Mrs.Someone: I know! All he had to do was say "Hey your bathroom is leaking!" And I would have opened the door. If I didn't open after a minute or two, why would he think is open it after that long ?

I hate to play devil's advocate but i have had someone's water leaking through my ceiling and i pounded on their door! I can't have my apartment get ruined from water damage. I'm sorry but i think this is a good reason to try to get someone's attention for 15 minutes.

Yikes, how scary! I don't get why he didn't yell through the door to identify himself and/or what was going on. And you should submit a report to the police that it took so long to get to you, 2 hours is ridiculous! If it were something real going on, it would've been WAY too late. Hope you're feeling better today...

I wasn't going to post this story bust since it seems only appropriate that it's apparently neighbor day, I'll indulge. The most terrifying thing happened last night when I was home alone. My husband was at work and it was about 9:00pm. I decided to take a shower. When I was in the shower I swore I thought I heard someone whistling. It sounded so close that it could have been right outside my bathroom. I swung open the curtain and no one was there and my cat was sitting calmly so I just brushed it off. I finished up my shower and as soon as I turned the water off, someone was knocking in my door. Mind you, we don't ever have people over and I live in a neighborhood where crazy homeless people walk around regularly at night. So needless to say, this freaked me the F out. I stepped out of the shower quietly so as not to alert whoever it was that I was actually home. Although the bathroom is literally right next to the door so im sure they could hear everything. I quickly walked into the living room where my phone is and the knocking turned into pounding. I'm shaking, crying and hyperventilating at this point, still dripping wet and in a towel. When the pounding continued, I made the quick decision to call 911. I told the dispatcher what was happening and after a little bit of her not really taking me seriously, she says she will send an officer. Door pounding continues.

Downstairs there is a coffee shop so I frantically found the number hoping the owner was still there and could come up and save me. No one answers. I then call my husband at work and choking through frantic tears, tell him what is going on. Pounding continues. It's been at least 10 minutes now. He hangs up with me to call the coffee shop guy himself. No police yet. Then I get a call from and unknown number and answer. It's the coffee shop guy. I asked still through tears "Were you knocking on my door?" He says YES!! it was him the whole time!! Apparently there was water leaking from his ceiling and he was trying to get my attention to turn it off. He literally pounded on my door for 15 minutes!! Who does that.?? I started screaming at him that he scared the shit out of me and I'd already called the cops. He tried to apologize but I hung up on him. I was so upset I must have cried until my husband got home. Then, two hours later the cops showed up. What would have happened if it were a real emergency?? Anyway, my husband went down to the coffee shop this morning and the guy profusely apologized. Still annoyed. I had nightmares all night about people breaking in. The pregnancy hormones haven't helped either.
