Ugh. So not looking forward to this. Hope DD can make it through the winter in her infant seat.

It's cold where I live. -30 in the mornings in the dead of winter, so I don't like the idea of running her out with no coat. I bought a 3-1 winter coat from Children's Place. It has a fleece liner and a winter coat shell. I take her out to the car (which I always warm up before hand) in the fleece+coat. When I get her in the car, I strip he out of the coat layer, buckle her in and cover her with a blanket. When I get to where we're going, I put the coat layer back on and we walk into the building. It's annoying, but we definitely got into a groove by the end of winter.

We bought her a north face - thin enough to use with a carseat.

DS wears a fleece Columbia jacket just to keep warm in the car and on the short walk to the car. If we're going out I have a thicker jacket for him to wear.

i would either keep the coat on until he was in the car, then take it off and buckle him and i kept a thick blanket in the car that would cover him. the year before, i had a thin down coat that was considered suitable for the car seat, but couldn't find a similar one last year.

Luckily our car is parked in a heated garage, so no concerns about getting from our condo to the car, and the car is warm enough to begin with. But when we arrive wherever we are going, this winter I got a fleece similar to the one @Adira: just posted. It wouldn't be warm enough for a long walk outside but if I'm parked pretty close it should be fine. I'll keep a warm blanket in the car for when we have to get into a cold car to go home.

Last winter she was about a year and a half. I would have her dressed sort of warm (like a sweatshirt or thinner fleece) and carry her wrapped in a blanket to wherever we were going. Now that she's bigger and walks everywhere that wouldn't work as well.

Patagonia down sweater. It flattens to as thin as a sweater or sweatshirt....it's not that NO jackets are allowed, just within certain guidelines ; ) I also start the car 5 mins before we leave.

We just use a thicker fleece jacket (http://www.columbia.com/boys-steens-mt-ii-fleece---infant-WN6760.html). My mom gives me grief and worries about my boys not being warm enough, but I know they are warm enough and SAFE, so I just ignore her.

I use a fleece north face zip up and a blanket.

His other coat is a warmish pea coat type. It's ok for the car seat. Neither keep him super warm, but with a blanket and the heat on in the car I assume he is ok.

We have car seat coats. Not quite warm enough for playing in snow, but warm enough for house to car transfers. We use the Patagonia down sweaters.

It is REALLY cold here, and as an infant we had a Patagonia down bunting. Thin enough to use with car seat and kept her super warm!

When she got bigger we just threw her coat on when we arrived.

Ugh...I hate this.

Winter #1 - DD was in an infant car seat so I just used a bundleme and felt fine just running in and out of daycare (the primary place we go when its cold outside).

Winter #2 - DD was 18mos...I dressed her in warm layers and just either wrapped a blanket around her to run her into school or put her coat on her while still sitting in the convertible carseat.

Winter #3 (this year) - DD is 2+...she will put on her coat before getting out of the car!

I start the engine before we get in so its warmed up!

Especially for LO's that aren't in an infant seat, what do you do? Bring a coat and put it on before getting out? Wrap a blanket around them? Something else?

Last year LO2 was still in an infant seat so I could just use the cover for her and then I would wrap a blanket around LO1 since I would still put a thin zip up of some sort on her. I constantly got questioned why in the world my kid didn't have a coat on when arriving/leaving somewhere. So now I'm rethinking how I should do it this year. Going from house out to car seems silly to put a coat on for that 5 seconds.

What do you do?
