If it's just for convenience and you already have the double I would go manual. Because if I'm going to need an outlet I'd just as soon use my double and a single isn't much less set-up/space. But a manual can be all assembled, no power needed, just go.

@Foodnerd81: I took it on two different day long business trips so 3-4x pumping before returning to baby. I haven't had problems with using it for a single pump session.

@Corduroy: like you were using the Manual for a full day at a time?

@Jess1483: I'm envisioning using it during times when I don't feel like I need a full pump, just enough to make me comfortable- so at a wedding without baby, when there are already bottles at home for her. Or in the middle of the night when she randomly only takes one side and the other is ready to go. If I was going to be away longer is probably bring the big pump.

@Foodnerd81: I have to use a manual because I have oversupply issues, and I actually find it pretty convenient. I think it would be really frustrating if supply is an issue or pumping generally takes awhile with electric.

I would choose single electric. I've taken my manual on two day trips and got clogged ducts both times. I don't think that's common though.

I have a double electric pump from when C was born that I really did not use that much- enough that I'm really glad I have it, just not enough that I think it's worn out or anything. I SAH and only did bottles occasionally like if I was going out without her or going someplace that BFing would be really inconvenient. Hoping for the same this time.

However I know we have at least two weddings in the first six months. I'm thinking about getting either a single electric (like the medela swing) or a simple manual pump for times when I just need to take the edge off for comfort or may need to pump but don't want to bring along the big double electric. Which would you recommend? I am eligible for another double electric with my insurance but honestly that's a waste I think.
