Both kids didn't really get sippy cups either and they used a straw cup from about 6-7 months. I find the straws of the playtex cups to be too big and they choke on the water. For my kids, they did best with the straw cups that had a weighted flexible straw (thinner than the stiff straws).

I feel like you sometimes have to go through a few to find one that works best with your kid.

DD didn't understand sippy cup (that you have to tilt it) at 1... We went straight from bottle/straw cup and then open cups. We never had any sippy's!

LO started with a munchkin 360 cup at 10 months and it took a while for her to get the hang of it and she didn't actually know how to use a sippy cup until much later.

The switch for her from the 360 cup to a real cup was easy too.

DS never understood the kind with the bite valves. At first we used take n toss straw cups and sippies and oxo sippies. But nothing really clicked until we did juice boxes. I know juice is unpopular around here, but it was key for us. We would squirt a little in his mouth, then squirt a little more when he put his mouth on the straw.

Another vote for a straw cup, but also, 3-4 times a day, not a week, would really help! That's not often enough for their little brains to put the pieces together.

We also had a problem , years ago I used the tupperware cups with my kids and no problem . But this time around I could not find any tupperware cups and she had a problem getting liquid out of any of the cups till we used a straw cup .The Click lock weighted flexi-straw cup was the favorite .http://www.munchkin.com/click-lock-trade-weighted-flexi-straw-cup-7oz.htmlhttp://pull01.munchkin.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/600x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/2/4/24188pk_main_small.jpg

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I agree with many of the ladies. My DD couldn't figure a soppy out but had no problems with a straw cup. We used the Munshkin straw cup in the beginning.

She much prefers straw cups. Zoli and munchkin click lock cups were easy for lo to use at first, though we prefer the thermos foogo ones now for less spilling (did't discover those until later).

DS1 never held his bottles so he didn't get sippy cups until he was learning open cups at almost 2! He took to straw cups. He hated anything with restriction on the straw that made it hard to suck and for travel we used Tommee Tippee and at home the Zoomi. Now we use the Contigo Gizmo straw cup - no bite needed and doesn't leak and the Munchkin360.

DS2 also doesn't hold his bottles so he sucks on his sippy and I may need to go with straw cups again. We use MAM bottles for him and they make a sippy that's basically the same so he likes it, he just doesn't know how to lift it up and tip his head back.

We had like 40 different sippy cups.
They all preferred the Take and Toss sippys.

For water bottles we use the kid Camelbacks. The bite valve is similar to nursing I guess. That was really the first one they all understood how to use.

Have you tried a straw cup? Both my boys preferred it.

ETA- I started with thinkbaby and vital baby straw cups since they both preferred a slow flow at the beginning.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: This was us! We had at least ten kinds of sippy cups, straw cups, the 360 cup ... and he refused them all. I started offering them occasionally around 8 months. Nope. He wouldn't drink from a single one until i straight up took his bottles away at one. Now that he has no choice he uses them happily ;)

I would try a variety... I tend to over-research all baby-buys but in ended up deciding I would rather him drink from a sub-par cup than not drink at all.

We love the 360 cup and the kids Camelbak. The 360 is perfect for learning how to drink it from a real cup and the camelbak makes it easy when we're out because we have adult Camelbak and let him use that. The nuk learner cup is also a good option, but I preferred that more for ages 6-8m.

I bought the Pura Kiki 5 oz bottle with Sippy Cup Spouts (links to both above) because Consumer Reports' Baby Gear Lab said it was the best transition cup. LO has been given the cup 3-4 times a week for almost two months now and is still not drinking from the cup. We give him the cup after dinner while he is still in his high chair. He has no problem holding it or putting the spout in his mouth, but he isn't sucking correctly. How long did it take your LO to get the hang of a Sippy cup? Is there a better one out there to try?
