Kids this age love to mimic, so you will likely find that LO is curious about your straw and wants to see how it works. I pretty much always drink out of a straw, so DD learned super early. She got the idea that water came through the straw and just started sucking in no time! When they were new they don't leak (as much), and LO learned to drink from the zoli and we skipped the sippy stage completely (he never really gets the sippy cups i don't know why). Then when the cups get older, they leak no matter how many times I replaced the straw. The milk / water in it just pushes itself out like a volcano. I find it difficult for her for thicker drinks though. She likes to have a smoothie with me in the morning and even I can't get it up that valve straw.
