We have NUK ones (http://www.nuk-usa.com/cups_and_accessories/nature-learner-cup/) and Camelbak Eddy kids bottles (http://shop.camelbak.com/eddy-kids-4l/d/50080_cl_241). Both so far have hardly leaked at all.

@ladybee: I would buy a box of cheap bendy straws and start using them for all of YOUR beverages. Kids this age love to mimic, so you will likely find that LO is curious about your straw and wants to see how it works. I pretty much always drink out of a straw, so DD learned super early. At first she would just chew on it, but imagine both our surprise when you got a mouthful of iced coffee the first time she figured it out! :silly:

I think it's important to remember that the end game is an open cup, so I would personally skip the sippy altogether. I would go directly to a straw cup because the actions required to get the liquid into the mouth helps with both eating and speech.

@ladybee: We actually started putting the straw in water and then plugging the other side with our finger, then letting it go in her mouth. She got the idea that water came through the straw and just started sucking in no time! She still doesn't always get that you have to tip up the zippy cups to get water/milk out (at 12 months), but she can use a straw cup with no problem.

The zoli was great for learning, but we were done with it by 12 months. Now we just use the take and toss straw cups or the thermos straw cup.

We used to love the zoli cups but now I hate them with a passion. When they were new they don't leak (as much), and LO learned to drink from the zoli and we skipped the sippy stage completely (he never really gets the sippy cups i don't know why). Then when the cups get older, they leak no matter how many times I replaced the straw. The milk / water in it just pushes itself out like a volcano. It is especially bad when the temperature changes (eg. when I take the cup from first to second floor, or put the cup of milk into the fridge for a bit).

Another vote for straw cup. We have double handle platex ones that work great. DD never took a bottle and couldn't get the hang of a sippy cup when we introduced water at 6mths, but girlfriend loves herself a straw cup!

I have the wow cup, and so far it's been pretty successful.

I also have the playtex double handed ones because I didn't want her using the sippy for very long, then I moved to the playtex straw up which she really likes. I find it difficult for her for thicker drinks though. She likes to have a smoothie with me in the morning and even I can't get it up that valve straw. But for milk/water it's fine.

My LO caught on to the straw very early. I blame jugo juice.

I like the foogo because I don't like plastic. They have both straw and tip style cups.

I used the cheap Playtex double handle ones because I knew I only wanted to use a sippy cup for a short time. DD got the hang of the straw really fast, so we barely used our sippy cups.

the thinkbaby straw cups are leakproof and I wholly recommend them. for a sippy cup at 8 months, i transitioned by using the avent sippy cup nipples and then a hard spout. going straight to a hard spout is tough if you're only used to a nipple.

We have an Oxo Tot straw cup that we need to try.

LO is 8 months old and I want to start transitioning to a sippy cup. I've tried the take and toss ones and he didn't care for them. I also tried Nuby 3 stage bottle and he just naws on the nipple.

What worked for you? Why did you like it? Bonus points if Target or BRU sell it!
