@.twist.: I actually sprayed my bits with the water! We have a removable shower head & I would just stand in the shower and spray away. It didn't hurt at all... IT WAS AWESOME.

But, no I didn't use the sitz bath. I used the peri bottle when I peed, and showered frequently.

@Anagram: yeah mine is round and it still fits! It says right on the box that it fits most toilets, so I think you'd be fine!

@.twist.: Yeah it worked similar to the sitz bath in that warm water was constantly running across the damaged areas...but since you are standing up it isn't a direct hit with the shower head spray, ya know? Just a nice warm trickle.

i just took a regular bath nearly every night in the first few wks pp. i 100% attribute it to my relatively fast recovery time (vag delivery, episiotomy, 2 hours pushing, tears)

I guess I'm one of the only ones here but I LOVED mine. It was uncomfortable for me to lower myself into the tub so the toilet setup was so much easier. I put Epsom salts in mind and tried to use it once a day for almost 6 weeks! I skipped it for about a week in there and felt like my healing slowed dramatically until I picked it up again. I'd highly recommend it, but you could probably wait until after you get home and see if you can just use your tub. My mom ran out and bought me one a couple of days after I got home.

i loved it. supplied by the hospital and midwives recommended some healing oil to add to it. Was it a pain in the butt (har har) yes, but it was absolutely worth it for me.

@Anagram: Yes, it's just to soak your lady bits. I don't recommend buying the thing that sits on the toilet, just soak in the bathtub. It really helped me. When DH got home from work, I would soak in the tub and then take my shower while he watched the baby. 3 a day is awesome but I only managed time for once a day b/c who has time for 3 while taking care of a newborn?

I know lots of women swear by it, but I HATED it. I could only tolerate it for about 10 seconds before I was screaming in agony and had to get off. But either way, your hospital will probably give you one, so definitely don't spend the money!

It's used to increase blood flow to the downstairs area to promote healing. Your hospital should provide one for use while you are there, I used mine a few times. Once I got home, I just took a bath 2x a day.

It is a little tiny tub that sits on top of your toilet bowl. It is filled with warm water. And it also has a little flow system so that a current flows down the middle and sort of washes warm water up against your parts to flush things out. There is a bag of water that empties into the bowl of water you are sitting in, and then as it overflows it pours out the back of the little tub and falls into the toilet.

That didn't work for me. Instead I just spilled water everywhere because it was too full. Or I was trying to hover so that I wouldn't spill. Or I'd be sitting in something that wasn't full enough and it hurt really bad to sit on an empty plastic tub like that.

Cleaning up bloody water on my bathroom floor was not what I was interested in doing immediately post partum, nor was I wanting anyone else (DH, MIL, etc.) to take care of that mess for me.

The sitz bath was way too complicated for me. They helped me use it in the hospital once, but I didn't really like it having water flying past my lady parts.

I used a squirty water bottle everytime I went to the bathroom instead. Less mess, easier controlled, etc.

ETA: I also used Dermoplast spray, tucks pads, and Preparation H wipes and cream for soothing measures. I got hemmheroids at 3 weeks PP and still didn't want to use the sitz bath for that.

I just used the bathtub. I just filled it up with a little warm water and sat in it for 15 minutes or so. I bought a sitz bath to place on the toilet and it was more of a pain. Plus the position of sitting on the toilet was painful for me.

I've read a few references to these being good for post partum care, and I've never seen one nor used one.

What is it used for/HOW is it used?
Is it necessary (esp in the case of hemorrhoids)?
Should I buy this now or will my hospital provide?
Will I really use it or should I just use Tucks pads?

I'm getting all my post-partum supplies ready and would rather be safe than sorry, but I also don't want to spend $11 on something I'll never use.
