Thanks so much for your input, ladies!

I got a lot of hand-me-downs so this will be very helpful as I go through it all :)

I echo everything said here and will add that (for us):
ON fits TTS but shrinks like crazy!
I cannot figure out H&M! Fits my DD great in little girl sizes but DS just finally started sitting into a pair of 9-12 mo pants (were so long) and I just bought him a pair of 9-12 mo shorts (he is 21 mo, avg height, thin).

Fit definitely gets better into the toddler sizes since they are just cut bigger to accommodate an entire years growth.

my daughter is tall and skinny, and carter's fits her really well and true to size. gymboree and gap/old navy are wide on her.

I agree that BabyGap & Gymboree both seem wide. I agree with @yoursilverlining that even across brands stuff can fit different. LO is a big baby and a 3M tshirt from Carters outlet fit the same as a 9M tshirt from Carters at Target.

I agree with the brands as @Shopaholic described them. To add another wrinkle, while Gap usually runs big (and wide) for us (and LO is a larger baby), she is currently wearing a Gap 12-18M onesie and it fits a little loose, but not "big". But, she has some Gap pants that are 6-12M that she is just starting to fit into now at almost 12 months when she's been able to wear Carter's 12M pants for a month or so. So; it doesn't even seem like each brand has a totally set standard across the brand either.

@shopaholic: my experience is the same as yours. Carter's is longer and baby gap is wider. I just got something from little me and holy heck it looks wide. My LO is almost 8 months and still fits Carter's 6 month stuff. She's on the long side.

In my experience, Gap is a little big, Old Navy is pretty true to size, Gymboree runs a little shorter and wider, and Carter's is long and lean (although the Target and WalMart lines run small).

Our babies are lean beans, so we feel like everything runs big... Having said that I just wanted to add that I think Tea runs true to size.

Our daughter is close to 50th percentile right now for height and weight. I've always found Carters to run pretty much TTS. Baby gap runs big. Boden runs maybe a little big. Old Navy runs a little on the small size.

I agree with @shopaholic: that it depends on your LO's body type. My LO is long and lean. Carter's fits pretty well in length and great in width. Hanna Andersson is great for babies like mine. LO is almost 13 month, and some 6-12 Gap stuff is still too big. Boden runs big. Little Me is super wide and short! Gymboree tends to run fairly TTS for us, but she outgrows the length fairly quickly.

I really think "true to size" varies bc everyone's opinion is based on their own LOs body type. I think Carter's (non-sleepers) seem to fit long and lean. Same with Hanna Andersson. Baby Gap seems to fit a little wider and shorter. Ralph Lauren, Janie and Jack, and Juicy Couture seem to fit TTS for us (probably runs small for average to bigger than avg babies). Little Me and Vitamins seem even wider than anything else! I think cloth diapers would love those brands!

I'm not sure b/c P is so petite most things run big on her. What I DO know is that we've managed great with getting items big (sometimes whole sizes big) and her getting LOTS of wear out of them! So don't be super worried if you get something & then it's big. ;)

Does anyone know what the sizing is for the major brands? I feel like I've seen this posted somewhere but can't find the info now (i.e. Carter's runs small compared to other brands, Gap runs true to size?). We're growing out of the newborn stuff, and I'm sorting through the non-newborn clothing and eyeballing for now.

I dread the idea of making my little gal actually try this stuff on :)

(Sorry if this has already been posted but didn't find anything thru a search)
