Update: So I went to Carter's today for their 50% off sale and the SA told me that their NB is basically "preemie" size and fits "up to 5lbs" wth?!

I ended up buying some sleepers without feet and a size bigger (though they look huge still!) Will wash and hope they shrink a bit.

Sizing is so off, and Carter's especially runs small.

@shopaholic: Yea I don't get how sizing can be so off among the same brand...between brands I get! The Gymboree thing worked out for my friend though. She was able to use the smaller outfit for several weeks before switching to the other one.

@oliviaoblivia: Unfurling - hmmm.. maybe that is it. No, she isn't outgrowing anywhere else. Slightly filling out the clothes better, like they are not so loose anymore, but not fitted yet anywhere either.

@anbanan15: Our one set with a Carter's onesie I did notice is slimmer & thinner than any other onesie we have (so far in NB). Actually, it's probably the best fitting one! lol! The Gymboree thing is crazy! Though I did notice a difference like that between Baby Gap and Baby Gap from the Outlet onesies we were given.

We had an issue with different style Carter's outfits running differently. I found the onesies in the sets (sets that came with pants, onesie and sometimes a sleeper) ran slimmer than the ones sold separately. I also felt that they were a thinner material.

I have also noticed this in a few other brands. I bought my friend some up to 5 lbs sleepers at Gymboree and one was over 1" shorter than the other! They were both the same style and same fabric and came in original packaging from the company.

I'll echo pp that clothing sizes are so different with different brands. LO is only 10 weeks and can wear a 6-12 jumper from Joe Fresh but is in 3-6 in most everything else.
Is she "growing out" of things she's already worn? Aside from shrinkage, it could be that her legs are stretching out (unfurling if you will) more.

Clothing is so weird. My daughter is 9 months and in 12 month Carter's but busting out of 12 month Circo. At the same time, some 12 month pants go past her feet. I am taking a bunch of clothes back to Carter's today to either exchange or return b/c they're 12 month clothes that she probably won't fit in by July.

@kiddosc: Hmm... this is probably true. We have 1 Carter's set with separate top/onesie/footed pants. The pants are still so loose they kind of slide down halfway past her diaper, but maybe I need to get more of those kind of sets.

@mrskc: I know she's grown a little, but still fitting the Baby Gap (under 7lbs clothes loosely). I just can't believe if it's actually shrinkage, that it shrank so much? I'm already very meticulous and particular about how I was all of our clothes. And they don't seem tighter around her body, just the length. I'd be shocked though if she's grown 2" in less than 2 weeks!

* Just figured out we don't have a single Carter's sleeper in size 0-3M for me to compare to. All our 0-3 clothes look HUGE in comparison to her NB sleepers. Maybe I'll have to buy some of those and hope they shrink to fit while she is in between

I've found that any of the footed stuff is what he grows out of the quickest. E fit into newborn onesies and pants for much longer than he fit into the newborn sized sleepers.

My son was 7lbs 7 oz at birth. I think he wore newborn for the first 3-4 weeks. Every baby is different and maybe she had a growth spurt. Or did you notice the clothes smaller after putting them in the dryer for the first time? It's possible they shrank.

Every baby is built differently even if pounds and length dictate he should be in another size! My 10 month old is basically the exact same size as another baby we know but wears a size up bc he has a long torso!

I've been reading and re-reading old posts on newborn and baby clothing sizes and seriously kind of confused. Seems like so many moms had babies bigger than K, but the wore NB for WEEKS or longer!

K is 12 days and I feel like she either a) grew a lot longer already, and/or b) her clothes shrank a lot???

All her main stuff in NB rotation right now are Carter's sleepers and a few Baby Gap onesies. I always wash in cold water and tumble dry low. Before she arrived I was hang drying everything, but seeing as how we only have like 5 sleepers and going through at least 2 a day, I just needed them clean, fast.

She was born at 6lbs 7 oz. and 18" long. She lost over 10% weight and At her first check up she was back up to 6 lbs 1 oz. but I swear according to her clothes she's grown at least an inch! I know there's probably some shrinkage, but where her feet used to be at least 2 inches shorter than the feet, she now fits into the footed parts! I'm thinking she needs some new sleepers but the 0-3 we have look soooo much longer than the NB.

K's not even 2 weeks yet and looks pretty small.. So I'm not sure how other bigger babies wore NB sizes up to 3 months?
