Both of my boys were chunkers from the start, but DD was so tiny for so long! She was 10-20% for the first year or so and is 40% ish now at 3.5. I was so concerned about her being so small but she thrived and my pedi continued to reassure me that it was fine because it was HER growth curve, and not to compare it with her older brother.

My oldest settled in the 30th percentile and she's still really skinny at 4.5. My youngest is 25 pounds at 19 months and she's a tank.

My baby is at the median for weight...but has been hovering in the 20s for height. The ped said they aren't as concerned with what percentile they fall in...as long as they track along on the same curve and don't change too dramatically too fast. As long as she's not dropping percentiles, she's probably ok

I’d say it was normal. I could feel DD’s, who was 40th (and still can at 4 yo, with her in the 50th). My 11 mo old has been 1st percentile since 3 mo and I definitely feel his ribs. But he’s fine. Crawling and cruising like crazy. So don’t worry- if he stays on his curve, he’s fine.

My LO has been at the 5-10th percentile for weight most of his life. It's not a surprise since my husband and I both were super skinny children. You can feel all his ribs and bones for sure and he's basically got no butt :) Since you LO has stayed on her curve and her doctor isn't concerned, I'm sure she's fine. That's just her size.

Mine is tiny too! born 2.5 months ago at 7lbs, only 10lbs 9oz today. soo 3lbs 9oz in 2.5months.

EBF. Ped isnt concerned. LC is actually more concerned which drives me crazy. Kellymom says baby should be gaining 5.5-8.5oz/week and mine has only gained about 3-4oz a week for the past month.

My LO was 9th percentile at 2 months, lately he's been eating like crazy and is up to around the 25th percentile. He was holding steady and then suddenly got a huge appetite and has been converging rapidly. Funnily enough, I got out the info from my weight checks as an infant in my baby book and he is almost exactly tracking my growth track. I wouldn't be concerned about your LO, especially if she is staying steady on her curve. She would let you know I'm sure if she's hungry :silly:

I used to call my DS a "bag of bones," because that's what he always felt like. I'm always caught slightly off guard when I pickup other babies, they're so squishy!

Anyway, as long as she's tracking on her own curve and your ped isn't worried, I don't think you should worry either.

Sounds similar to both my girls. Born at about 7lbs, give or take. Gained back to birth weight by 2 weeks, both around 9lbs at 2 months, 11lbs at 4 months. Both were about 14lbs at 6 months - thats where they went different directions.

DD1 weighed 21lbs at 1 year, then up to 23lbs at 2 years. At 4 years she was 28lbs. Now at 4.5 she is 32ish lbs...shes a featherweight.

DD2 weight 26lbs at a year, and basically still weighs that at 2yrs, 3 months. :) Maybe 28 on a heavy day!

ETA: My girls were both EBF through 4 months, then both had 1-2 bottles of formula a day until I weaned at 6 mos.

LO2 was born 3 months ago, at 28th percentile. She has hovered between 22nd-28th percentile since then, with weight checks at 4 days, 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, and 3 months. Her dr is not concerned - the 1 month and 3 month weight checks were done by me. She is EBF with one bottle of breastmilk a day. Her nursing and napping frequencies and durations are normal. She was born at 7lbs9oz and is only 11lbs8oz today - so, 4 pounds in three months. LO1 gained that in 6 weeks!

So, I know that all of those are important benchmarks, BUT.... she is SO skinny! I can feel her ribs whenever I hold her. She feels so fragile. Is feeling the ribs normal with this low of percentiles??

My only frame of reference is LO1 and he was chubby - 90th percentile 0-6 months, then slowly decreased to 50th percentile by 12 months, and he's been between 40-50th percentile since then (now age 2y4m).
