@regberadaisy: Total thread jacking right now. :) Sorry! We didn't actually talk to our ped about it because I don't really care for her and we're in the process of switching. I discussed it with our chiro and did a bunch of independent research though. Oh, and all the fat! Their little brains and bodies need it!

My baby hasn't weaned yet, but I'm not a huge fan of milk and was talking to a mostly-vegan friend who said her pediatrician said that coconut milk + a multivitamin is a good alternative and still high enough in fat. I'm going to ask my ped about it when the time comes because I'd love to skip the cow's milk altogether.

@LittleGBee: it sure does! :)
Did you talk to your ped about it? How did they react?
Also do you skim any cream off the top to make it less fatty or do you mix and give it as is?

@regberadaisy: We've been slowly introducing it since 13 months (so, a month and a half now), and she doesn't really miss it if we forget. We just give some to her at dinner instead of her water and she seems to like it! She still nurses as much as she wants (which is only 4x/day), so it's not really essential in my opinion.

She had some night wakings around the time we started it, and we thought it could be related to digestion stuff, so we eliminated it for two weeks and reintroduced it again after the break. I'm really sure that her night wakings were about teething pain rather than milk stuff though.

Hope that helps!

My daughter isn't fully weaned yet, but we give her raw cows milk and would consider doing raw goats milk if I did more research and found a reliable supplier.

I voted yes, although my toddler hasn't weaned yet. She doesn't drink any milk, doesn't seem interested. I'm not planning to push her to, and I don't really expect her to. I drink skim chocolate milk every day which I would love to share with her, but she's not into it.

It would be lovely to see her drink it in terms of protein and fat. I watch those things, and she meets her protein requirements daily, but she doesn't eat a ton of fat. I've started adding that to her foods.

Our first daughter refused cows milk. Luckily she loved yogurt and cheese which is where she got her dairy. We bridged with almond milk.

We are skipping cows milk (and most milk really). She does get alternate milks occasionally (we rotate through almond, rice, flax and hemp) but I'm really hoping she can get adequate fat, calcium etc from eating a balanced diet.

@regberadaisy: I'd really like to stay mostly dairy free & hemp milk is the closest in fat content to whole milk.

That'll still be a long ways coming though.

I am not sure yet honestly. I might go to raw milk instead but have to look into it more and speak with our ped about it. But def not until after 1. Currently she's primarily breastmilk, supplemented with formula and water throughout the day. No store bought juice but have had a couple sips of homemade.

@runsyellowlites: can I ask why?

I weaned at 9 months and LO was drinking formula and pumped breast milk up to her first birthday. She now drinks whole milk and the last bags of pumped milk. She also drinks water but no juice.

Did anyone skip cow milk altogether (perhaps gave their LO water and juice only) after breastmilk or formula weaning?
