I like booster seats that just sit on the chair and don't have restraints simply so they have the height. That being said I have known quite a few kids to skip that stage and you have nothing to lose by trying it. Worst case scenario you wind up buying one  .

DS could use a normal chair, but I like the booster because a) less mess when he's at the proper level and b) harder to get out of his seat and bounce around until he's actually done eating.

Yep! E went from her high chair to a regular chair at 22 months. She decided she was done with the high chair herself. She sits the whole meal and doesn't get up.

The only part that's hard are the spills and crumbs...there's nothing to catch it. She insists on drinking from a regular cup so I clean up spilled milk at least 5 times a week.

We've been using the regular chair for a while...since I'll need the high chair for the other one soon.

We used a regular chair for about 2 months when LO refused his high chair. It was fine, he was just a little too low in the seat to really eat properly, and he could also just get out whenever he wanted! He is now in a booster seat, and it is much better for us.

We've been using a regular chair since he was around 18-19 months old. He started to refuse the high chair so we just went with it.

No personal experience, but my 2 year old niece just uses our chairs at the table when they come over for dinner. She does have a booster at home and at Grandma's, but it doesn't seem to be issue that she doesn't have one at our house

I'm curious if anyone went from high chair to regular chair and skipped the booster seat? A thinks it's so cool to sit at the table with us so we currently have her high chair pulled up to it, but E will need to use it in a few months so I thought of just skipping the booster altogether, am I crazy? She will be a little over 2 at that point.
