I recently found out that there are physical blockages that may indicate sleep apnea. That, with the quality of my sleep (crappy, I'm a light sleeper) and being frequently tired even when I sleep 8 straight hours, makes it seem like I have it, but I haven't had a sleep study done (at least yet.) I could stand to lose some weight but that isn't the problem. I assume this was happening during pregnancy and probably before too. My parents suspect my brother, who could stand to GAIN weight, also has it. My daughter was born completely healthy, on her due date. But sleep deprivation was extra hard on me and I think it could have contributed to the severe ppd I experienced. I didn't have a cpap machine or anything like that. No pre-e either.

@creativemomma15: I'm guessing that would be the suggestion. I just didn't know if there was anything specific with being pregnant, like if they don't suggest starting them during pregnancy or something like that. I tried one on once and the oxygen flow made me feel high - dizzy, light headed. I don't think it would harm a fetus but I just wondered if anyone had talked to their doctor about it already.

@Alivoo01: I do snore but during which I stop breathing at times. Sometimes its several times a night. And this is just what we know from when my wife is awake at night observing me. Otherwise I don't wake up fully but am never sleeping fully either.

If you talk to a dr would they set you up with a CPAP machine? My dad has sleep apnea and uses a CPAP machine that helps him keep breathing consistently throughout the night. He had to have a sleep study done to confirm apnea and get the machine by once he got it all dealt with he was sleeping better then he ever had before.

@Fronkinzankinsbride: Is it bc you snore or you just stop breathing in general?

I just thought of a new thing for me to worry about. I'm not pregnant yet but I semi-recently made the discovery that I struggle to breathe frequently during the night. It terrifies my wife and she wakes me up to get me breathing again. I have just been dealing with this all of my life so I didn't bother talking to my doctor about it pre-ttc. It didn't occur to me until just now that this is going to affect my baby who will also not be getting oxygen! Women without pre-existing sleep apnea also can develop it in pregnancy.

Does anyone have experience with sleep apnea during pregnancy?
Did you have it before getting pregnant?
Did you develop preeclampsia?
Did you wear a cpap?

Dr.Google informed me that this could increase my chances of my baby needing to be in the nicu by close to 50%. :crying:

Losing weight pre-pregnancy is really the only suggestion but that isn't what my issue is. So I have no idea how to decrease the health risks. Obviously I'll have to talk to my doctor but please share your experiences!
