I did an in home consultation at around 6-7 months and whilst it wasn't a magic bullet, it was definitely helpful!

Personally I think that a good sleep consultant will take into account the big picture (baby's temperament, diet, routine, habitat, activity level, mum's temperament etc) and give you options that aren't just going straight to CIO, as well as working within your comfort levels.

I am doing the phone consultation. I had to reschedule from last week to this Friday. I am a little hesitant to do any sort of formal sleep training, but, LO is 5 months old and still waking 6-8 times per night and nursing at least 3 times. I am completely exhausted. I am hoping to come up with a plan that doesn't require prolonged crying. I will let you know how it goes!

@Emsmems: All of the above! We strategized over the phone. I was adamant I didn't want to do CIO, but every "gentle" method we tried didn't work. So we struck a deal - we decided on a 30 minutes of crying time limit for going to bed and MOTN wake ups. My husband slept on the couch with the monitor so I wouldn't know about the wake ups. DS did amazingly well - he was STTN 7:30 to 4:30 am, then a quick feeding, then back to sleep til 6:30-6:45 am. He was 8.5 months old, he cried for an average of 6-7 minutes after the initial night (17 minutes) for the next 3 nights, and for the last several months he has slept 7:30 or 8:00 PM to 8:00 am, no wake ups. Life changing.

@Emsmems: @travellingbee: Two of the Isis sleep consultants formed their own company. They are on facebook or their website is: http://childsleepscience.wordpress.com/ I haven't used them, but I find their advice really helpful. One of them, Meg, did the sleep webinars from Isis and I really liked her approach.

Like @illumina: mentioned, the Isis webinars are still available, on youtube now: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLi-9aoEo6D_PnuRr9E5RYqcG1dDTC9cku
I spent so, so many hours watching them when C was younger. Our problem was more naps than nighttime but they have it all.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: thanks. We were doing better (and naps have GREATLY improved) but lately we are back to every 2 hour wake ups and waking at 5 am for the day! Something needs to change!

@galore5: I'd love to hear what you think. Did you do the email or phone consult? Or did you just do the personalized sleep plan?

@grizz: I'm glad you had good luck with them since that is what I was leaning toward. Same questions for you as galore5!

We did it and used BSS. They created a plan that I was comfortable with, and it worked! And my baby was the worst sleeper there ever was.

@Emsmems: I'm sorry you're having trouble. :( I hope you will get some help soon! When I was considering sleep consultants, I googled them in my city and found 2 or 3. So if the website doesn't work out, you could try locally.

I did. I used Isis but they closed. It was definitely worth it. We did a phone consultation and it helped to motivate us and create a plan we could stick with. The plan was very customized and I liked that.

i am currently working with the baby sleep site consultants. i decided to go with them based on recommendations from a co-worker. i like the idea that they customize a plan for you based on all of the approaches and your parenting philosophies. we'll see how it goes!

Has anyone used a sleep consultant? And from where? I am considering one as my 6 month old has been waking up more frequently at night again and I just feel like we are in a cycle we can't get out of and need an outsider to help. I've looked at thebabysleepsite.com. They do phone or email consultation. I like that they will work with you on what style training you want (CIO/not CIO, etc). Anyone have any direction or advice for me?

Thanks!
