@babyjmama: awwwh, that's what I use to do too but E has started screaming for me for a LONG time which is so hard. Remember when we first started sleep training them for the first time? Haha! That was easier than this!!

@HLK208: I'm doing what I guess could be considered 'toddler sleep training' basically unless J is screaming and sounds like there is an actual issue-I won't even go in to his room. He has to figure it out. He just had a wake up a few minutes ago but only cried 15 minutes off/on. Hoping that's the only one tonight.....

Omg you poor thing!

When DD went through something similar we flipped her door knob so the lock would be on the outside. We did her bedtime routine and locked her in her room. She's been sleeping in a floor bed her entire life, so it was the only thing that worked. We explained that she needed to sleep and stay in her room before we left. She screamed 10 mins the first night, about 5 the next, a minute the next and by the 4th night she was fine.
Now, we leave her door open all night and she sleeps fine (only comes out if she needs to pee). "You have to keep the open door." HAHA.

Before J was born, she would wake 2-6x a night and come into our room to get me. I'd end up sleeping on the floor of her bed because I was so tired of getting in and out of bed. :P Had to do something before the baby was born.

Anyway, hope she starts sleeping better for you!!

M gave her nap up at 28 months and started resisting early on too. She was zzzz 13-14 hours a night before we potty trained her though. Now she gets an average of 12 a night with no nap.

One last thing! Even though she doesn't nap, we have quiet time where she chills in her room.

@sandy: thanks! It's helpful to read that someone else has gone through it. B never did! He loves his naps. We'll keep trying!

@HLK208: I feel like C went through something similarly around 20ish months and it lasted a few months :-/. I kept pushing her nap later and later...she would go 7-7.5 hours from wake up to naptime but it got us to a point where she started napping again. I think it's what you said, realizing they can fight sleep and also maybe just increased brain activity so they're just busy thinking of all the stuff they are learning/processing. C fought naps for a few weeks and I was convinced we were going to be dropping her nap but I kept at it bc other moms where like just push through and she'll nap again. We're at 2 years 4 months and she still fights naps sometime - she'll nap 4 days and not nap 1 day etc. on no nap days I leave her in her bed for 2 hours to "rest" but really she's being crazy in her bed but at least she stays in her bed. And then I move bedtime an hour earlier...and she crashes. I think this is a busy time for their brains and like most things it will eventually pass. Good luck!

@babyjmama: so she fought her nap yesterday for two hours and ended up falling asleep on me until 5pm, so we kept her up until 9pm (rare) but she didn't sleep in!!!! Wahhh :( up at 5am. I feel like she's just learning that she CAN fight sleep.

I need to read about toddler sleep training! This is absolutely nuts. We had to skip a play date yesterday because she's so crabby when she doesn't sleep.

I feel like DD is doing the same thing! I have no idea what to do except have DH put her to bed sometimes and give lots of transition warnings. Hoping this is "just a phase" for both of us!

These two are TWINS!!!! I was about to post a thread about J. His sleep has been AWFUL lately! He's ended up in bed with us. I tried pushing bedtime back and it made going down easier but he still woke up overnight :-(

I am EXHAUSTED. I'm a zombie b-word at work. Our house is a mess. I look awful. Ugh. End vent.

For us, extending bedtime another 15-30 minutes totally helped. You can also try shortening her nap. Moving bedtime half an hour later truly made all the difference for us.

E has been pushing her bedtime to 8:30, even though I put her down between 7:30-8pm, she calls for me and starts asking for things she doesn't necessarily need (her stuffed bunny, a book, milk, etc). She also started waking up at 6am instead of 7. Then she started waking up once or twice a night. Now, for the past 3 days - she has been fighting her nap completely. Nothing works unless she sleeps on me, in my bed, no where else. Nap time is around 1:30pm, when DS (who is almost 5) is always tired and still naps. But E? Nope. Not a wink.

She's only getting about 8 hours of sleep a day with her night time wake ups and not napping. It's killing me!! Any suggestions? She's not in a toddler bed yet but her nap fighting is making me want to wait to do the switch.
