@edelweiss: oh dear! If its any consolation we had our best day of naps ever, a great night, and then our worst day of naps ever right in a row last week. It'll get better!

Totally agree...I thought L was going to be a hot mess last night after Easter dinner but he was asleep by 730 and slept until 230.

ETA, I'm kind of jealous of my cousins wife. Who's a SAHM with a 8 week old...they don't put him down until 11 pm so they get to sleep the whole night through!

@scg00387: oh, not sure quite yet whether sleep training is going well--i think that night was a fluke. i was kind of hoping it would be some 3-day magic solution, but it's a lot more two steps forward one step back than that...i'm actually feeling a bit discouraged...

@edelweiss: they always keep us guessing right?! We're not too worried about over stimulating him normally to be honest but if yesterday is what it takes for him to sleep that well I'm screwed because we only see my whole family maybe twice a year haha! (2 7 year olds 1 2 year old and 6 new adults all fawning over him). Glad sleep training is going well for you!

i'm in the same boat. we started sleep training this past weekend and his best night of sleep was after we took him to lunch where he was handled and passed around, and missed a nap. i've been so cautious about not overstimulating him, and now i'm wondering if i've taken that too far.

congrats on your LO learning how to put himself to sleep!

I swear my LO always keeps us guessing. Normally has one night waking and wakes between 5 & 7 but is clearly happier when its closer to 7... He learned to put himsel to sleep last week and I thought that might mean more consistent or longer night sleep.. No changes.

Yesterday was a crazy day with tons of stimulation and new family.. Tried to put him down earlier after an early ish last nap and he was just bananas, babbling and wide Awake after nursing.

After an hour of trying to calm him down I nursed him again out if desperation and he passed out, half hour past his normal bed time.

And he slept his longest ever until 5 am and then, even weirder, has gone back down to sleep.

Sometimes everything I thought I knew or read is completely opposite of what actually happens!! Ack!
