Thanks everyone.
@hilsy85: I tried to do the Ferber method last night based solely on the info that sammyfab so graciously posted. I don't know if we did it right, but we had a MUCH better night, although 10:30-12:00 was pretty awful. Will read your thread and see if I can grab that book from the library. Thanks!

@NurseMommy: yup we did ferber (which is modified cio not sure if you're comfortable with that). Here was our experience:
http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/talk-to-me-about-ferber/page/2

Good luck! I found it to be really effective and fast. I HIGHLY recommend reading Ferber's book--there's a ton of good info on infant sleep in there. IT's a fast read, so even just skim it!

Another 8 month old whose sleep has deteriorated in the past couple of weeks... chalking it up to sickness/teething/regression and I guess the usual baby mystery circus nonsense! No words of wisdom but the best thing my post-partum doula told me was that you cannot ruin a baby re. sleep! if you had good sleep, you will be able to get back to it, even if it takes a little time and trying new tricks! I don't know if this is strictly true, but I repeat it to myself whenever we're going through a rough spot and it really helps!

I'm not sure what to say but we did go through a recession at 8.5-9.5 months too. We ended up deciding it was separation anxiety and she just moved into our room in the pnp in the middle of the night. It lasted about a month and then she went back in her room until recently. We have finally been letting her consistenly cio for naps the past few days (only after we ruled out the molars, fears, etc as being the cause of the upset which took a week or so) and have tried to at nights but only before midnight. It's only happened if she goes down within twenty minutes. Something happens around then (midnight) and it just seems impossible. All this to say you aren't alone. Good luck with tonight!

@NurseMommy: longer between checks. You can choose whatever you're comfortable with to do during checks (bum pat, shushing, rubbing her head or just talking/reassuring) but it's usually not recommended for you to pick them up (or just very briefly).

Each night you can increase the times too. Night one you can do 3, 5, 7, 10, 10, 10. Tomorrow you can do 5, 7, 10, 12, 15...

@hilsy85: did ferber with checks, I bet if you search you can find her posts on it. No matter how you do it, I think it's a good idea to have a plan and be ready ahead of time. Feeling desperate in the MOTN is no time to be making decisions! Also tracking progress and times at first so you can see changes. Good luck!

@Sammyfab: progressively longer as in longer each night? Or longer each check? And what do you do when you check on them? Sorry for all the questions; I'd like to get started tonight.

@NurseMommy: basically. When she wakes up you just check on her with progressively longer times between checks. You can start with 3 minutes then 5, 10, 15 or whatever you're comfortable with.

Even with no-cry methods there is always some crying!

@wonderstruck: @Sammyfab: so what exactly do you do with the Ferber method? CIO with checks? Or do I have my facts mixed up?

You want to reinforce her ability to put herself back to sleep in the middle of the night...and you also want to the break the habit of having her sleep in your bed, right?

There are tons of middle options between always rescuing her and CIO. The two already mentioned - sleep lady shuffle and Ferber - are what I would suggest. You could also do pick up / put down but I think that's for younger babies.

After the no cry sleep solution didn't work for us (my god it was nightmare-ish, but I know other have had success with it) we tried the Ferber Method (which isn't truly CIO) - worked like a charm!

We do the Sleep Lady Shuffle, and it was working WONDERS for us til a couple days ago. Little dude is trying to pop 3-4 teeth so we're having some setbacks, but I feel like its a pretty solid plan. I think her website is sleeplady.net ? The book is Good Night, Sleep Tight by Kim West, and the workbook is a condensed, no-filler version of the book.

We did it when LO was MUCH younger so I think it would go a lot quicker now. Let me know if you have specific questions.

@NurseMommy: you haven't ruined your baby, I promise :silly: There are lots of options outside of CIO if you want to explore them. Hilsy mentioned one, we had good luck with no cry sleep solution & rocking.

@hilsy85: not long... I always feel bad because I try to keep her as quiet as possible to avoid waking up DH. Which probably answers your next question... I don't know, he doesn't ever get up in the night!

How long have you left her to resettle herself? WHat happens if you send your DH in instead of you?

Have you checked out the sleep lady shuffle? Basically, you sooth from next to the crib and gradually move farther away. there are a few ppl on here who have had success with it (I think @grizz is doing it now with some success?)

I have no idea what to do.
My LO (8 months) used to sleep through the night. Then we started solids and she stopped. Then it got better. Then we went on vacation, she slept with us (went through major separation anxiety), and now I think I've ruined her.

She puts herself to sleep for naps and at bedtime. But every single night, without fail, she wakes up EXACTLY as I'm drifting off into dreamland (how does she know?!?). I've tried leaving her to resettle, but she doesn't. So then I put her soother back in, no dice. Then I try to rock her back to sleep, it works, yay! Aaaaand then I can't put her down again. So I end up bringing her into our bed, where the three of us have a terrible nights sleep.

My husband and I are pretty much at our breaking point. I really don't want to CIO, because I have major anxiety about ruining her trust in me (NOT slamming anyone who does this, fully recognize that it's my issue), but is that my only option at this point? Any other solutions?
