Last night was a bit improved with three wake ups to eat and no other extra wake ups. Going to sleep was a bit tougher. He went down fine and then woke up half an hour later. DH wasn’t home and I was baking cookies with DS1 so he did a bit of fussing/crying and I rocked him a bit before he finally fell back asleep.

@periwinklebee: no improvement. Last night he had a hard time going down but then the night started good. His second wake up was around 2 but I fell asleep nursing him and after that the night just went downhill.

@LCTBQE: I’m sorry your going through it too, especially since she was STTN. With DS1 we did CIO at about 6 months and it worked. I’m prepped to do it sooner this time. I’m glad we ditched swaddles about 6 weeks ago, that actually helped him. We use the rock n play for naps. I’ve tried a few times to get him to nap in his crib with little success. He’s almost too big for it so he will have no choice soon. Hopefully your transition goes well.

Baby sleep is tough.

@ALV91711: commiseration :) my baby was born a few days before yours, and we (I think) hit the 4-month regression maybe ten days ago. She went from STTN with the help of a 10pm dream feed to waking up multiple times every 10 minutes after being put down for the night, two new night wakings, and garbage little naps. We are also working hard at drowsy but awake and trying (sorta) to graduate out of the rock n play, which is hard with reflux :bummed: did you do CIO with your older boy? We did it with our son, like @JJ2626: at 4.5 months and it worked wonders.

Thank you @periwinklebee: that is what I needed to read this morning. Sometimes it is so hard when you are in the thick of it to remember it does get better. There is a reason there is 5.5 years between my boys!!

@bhbee: A super sweet cuddler is always a bonus. DS1 was a crappy sleeper and at 5.5 he still loves to cuddle me, luckily now it is in the day!

@JJ2626: a curtain is a great idea. We have a room divider somewhere in our house. Maybe DH will get it out for me.

So we did CIO when LO was 4.5 mos and in our room. We did have a curtain separating us, though, since it’s a pretty big room. Could you do something like that? It worked great and she never knew we were in there.

@ALV91711: I think there's a lot of truth in what @Kemma: says. Similarly, my son was the king of only sleeping while held/cuddled up next to me, especially later in the night. For this reason, we would have probably ended up room sharing even if it wasn't a necessity due to our small apartment. Then suddenly around ten months, he just started preferring to only sleep in his crib. I worked so hard at the crib when he was smaller - and it was important to me that he sleep there for a few hours at the beginning of the night since I don't go to bed at 7 - but basically he just took to it for all night on his own when he was ready, and I don't think anything I tried did much... All to say, definitely work on getting things to be more bearable - and I'm sure it will improve soon - but don't beat yourself up if sleep training, or sleepy but awake, or separate rooms doesn't work the miracles it does for some people. I still wonder what I'm doing wrong, but have basically come to the conclusion that some babies just get there in their own sweet time, regardless of how much parents try to expedite things...

@Kemma: Thanks. Good to know that things improved on their own.

@Foodnerd81: yes, last night we talked about moving him once our company is gone. I don’t have a playpen so I can’t really stick him anywhere else. I think we will do CIO once he’s moved.

Last night he did a smidge better but after 3 he wouldn’t stay asleep unless he was held. After a couple nights of early bedtimes he is starting his day not so early too which is nice.

@ALV91711: since you have guests coming in a couple weeks anyway, I probably wouldn’t do anything major until after they leave. But I’ll also say we did cio to fall asleep at night with my older one st just before 4 months because it was so terrible at that point sleepwise.
For my younger one we ended up having her sleep in s pnp in the master bathroom when we started waking each other up. Is something like that or a closet an option until you get past the holidays?

I agree with @Kemma: that the only way out is through.

My third baby wasn’t a great sleeper and then she just progressively got better from about six months old. Prior to the six month mark she fed to sleep every night and ended up in my bed but she just seems to have grown out of it and will occasionally even sleep all night.

Sometimes I think the only way out is through and fingers crossed you get some better sleep soon!

@ALV91711: Yeah, it's hard when they're so little still. I think it really does help, but it's definitely a process.

Sleep has not been all that great here lately because of all the daycare sickness we've had - croup, hfm, rsv, and a stomach bug in less than two months, plus problems with DS's allergies. But on nights where he doesn't wake himself up coughing or puking or whatnot, he'll eat once or twice between 7:30pm and 6:30-7am. I'm sure I could improve that by night weaning, but I may wait to tackle that one until the winter sickness season is over.

I really hope sleep improves soon!

I seem to not remember anything about what we did for this with DS1, he was in our room until 6 months and then we sleep trained to go down at night.

That was the age where they were more aware of our presence at night and would therefore have more wake ups (and consequently more feedings). I would try to find a way to put him in a separate space. If company is coming just for a few nights, could you address sleep logistics at that time?

I’m sorry you’re going through this sleep regresssion. 4 months and 9 months were definitely the worst ones for us!!

DS is 3.5 months and we have definitely hit the 4 month regression.

He sleeps in his crib in our room. He had been waking 2-3 times to eat in an 11 hour period. The last few nights he has been waking every 2 hours and in the early morning will only stay asleep if I hold him. The last couple nights he’s gone to bed earlier at about 6pm but this hasn’t really helped anything. He also won’t take a soother, we’ve tried multiple kinds but he will only chew on them.

Tips, tricks or commiseration? Thanks ladies.
