My DS is a month older and we haven't had this happen (yet!) - but I'd try really hard to let him sleep in your bed as little as possible (unless you're happy for it to continue). I think at this age it's really easy to form habits - although I know it's so hard when you just want some short term peace and sleep! If it were me I would explain that now he's better it's time to sleep in his cot, and that you are there for him but you won't be taking him into your room. Then I would tell him that I was leaving him to try and get some sleep but would be back if he needed me - I'd then go back in if he sounded like he was really upset but just repeat the same things again. Commiserations it sounds tough!

@Nutella: DS was never a good sleeper to begin with, and when he hits a regression, it sets us back quite a bit. It sucks!

@Alivoo01: thank you so much for that - I'm glad we aren't alone! Your situation sounded horrific...months?! Haha, I am in awe! We've just managed to get him down in his cot after THREE hours of him in our bed, ranting and playing around! He's now asleep yet I'm awake still!

Molars could be happening - he has all his other ones & it has been a while since last teething.

Sleep training sounds like a must! We e never had to do it but can't really go on like this. Also going to try limiting his day naptime and maybe even push his bedtime out by an hour...it's crazy how little sleep he has needed over the past eight hours (nighttime over here)....

We didn't travel, but DS had a major sleep regression starting around that time, or shortly before he turned 2. It was a total nightmare!! His sleep didn't start improving until a few months later, and even now, his sleep can be horrendous. Hope this is a short phase for you so that it passes quickly!

If he can be sleep trained, I would do that. Is he teething by any chance, like getting his two year molars? That could be causing some discomfort also.

LO is 20 months and has always been a good sleeper. Recently we have been away on holiday, and have had few nasty bugs so he has been very unsettled at night. During those weeks we would just bring him into bed and that way we all get to sleep! (This was not standard behaviour - as an infant he never slept in our bed as he just wanted to toss & turn all night...)

Since he is no longer sick and we have been home for a few days now, I'm keen for him to stay in his cot and sleep on his own. But he is waking through the night screaming like a cat yowling!! :bummed:

Is this common for this age group? Will I just be better off bringing him into bed & prolonging the process? Any similar stories out there?

Thanks in advance!
