@QBbride: thanks! I'm just glad to have found a method that isn't pure CIO but will provide some structure. DD is still a few weeks off from sleep training but im looking forward to it! :)

@Dagny: did you get it?

@fussygal: send me your email address and I can forward it to you. I don't think my results are typical - in the book it says of course you can't give an "average" time since babies are so different, but many families say their babies cry 1 hour the first night, 25 mins the second night, 15 mins the third night (I think I got it right).

The other thing that is important to remember when I spoke to a sleep consultant (who I didn't end up using) was that sleep isn't linear - it's not like it will get better and better every night. There will still be ups and downs.

Ooh this is so interesting and I've never heard of this method until today and would love to learn more! Love the fast results and that you are in the room to comfort them. @QBbride: would you mind sending me the PDF, too?

@singingbee: exactly! Now sometimes in the middle of the night he'll cry out/sit up, but in less than 3 minutes he's asleep. It's amazing! Now I keep wondering if I had just let him learn to self soothe earlier, how much more sleep I would have had over the past year!

@QBbride: that was our problem. I responded too quickly and lo actually would stay asleep if I let her. We go to bed drowsy but awake and turns out,she prefers that to nursing until asleep. I think I was holding her back and when we made the transition it was needed.

@Dagny: if you message me your address, I'm happy to send the PDF to you! I have a friend who swears by this method.

There are 2 methods-
1. Stay in room
2. Leave the room with regular check ins

I skimmed the book and basically you have to allow your baby to learn to self soothe without using any sleep props. I sort of figured out that I was responding too quickly and never gave him a chance to squirm and fall asleep. Anyways he cried for 10 minutes the first night, 4 mins the night after and now he cries for 1-3 mins when I put him down. I don't think my results are typical but I think my baby was ready to fall asleep on his own but I never gave him the opportunity because I picked him up too quickly.

@QBBRIDE - can you explain what this program is or send me the PDF? Is it the same as the sleep lady shuffle (where you stay in the room and then each night you progressively move farther and farther away)?

My LO is 14 mo and sleep has been a total nightmare since the day he was born. Almost every night is a battle and he is in and out of our bed all night. I haven't slept since he was born. Obviously, you can see my desperation. haha. I think I will have to night wean in order for him to get decent sleep, so I'm starting to consider doing that...Thanks!

@MerryC: @NovBaby1112: thanks for your replies! LO gets do mad if I'm in his room and don't puck him up, so i think it would be better to leave. I'm terrified he'll cry forever though, he gets super upset and sweaty and takes a long time to calm down.

I got a PDF copy of Sleep Sense from a friend, and in the 12m+ category it has the routine as waking up from the afternoon nap at 4pm. My son is in daycare full time and always wakes up by 3, so I'm hoping I can somehow modify it.

We did it for our twins at 10 months and were very happy with how it went. We used the stay in the room method and night weaned at the same time. It was a game changer in terms of their sleep. I never thought my son would sttn, and he did by day 4. My daughter was the better sleeper to begin with and got it on night 2. Even now at nearly 2 yo, if their sleep gets off track, we use principles from the method to get back to sttn.

I really liked being able to stay with them and comfort them while they were upset. My son would barf if left alone to cry, so traditional cio was a non starter for us, but this worked well. I felt like it was a good compromise for our family.

I think we did this if i remember correctly. We followed the in-room method for LO, who was 6.5 months. Basically I stayed by her crib and moved further and further away each subsequent night. By the 4th night, I was able to just leave the room and do checks a la Ferber. The first night I remember being awful- she cried for 45 minutes, even with me there using soothing words and picking her up twice. It got easier and easier though, and by the fourth night the crying was minimal. Good luck!!

Anybody use this? Success/failures?

DS is 12m and he really needs to start sleeping better. I've always been anti-CIO but I'm going back to work soon and DS does not calm down easily for DH.

Help!!
