@Alivoo01: I know, our LOs are sleep-hating twins.

Honestly, when LO started standing up a couple of weeks ago, her sleep got a million times worse. Seriously, I didn't think it could get worse, and then it did--Not only was she having frequent wakeups, but when she did wake up she would NOT go back to sleep.

I tried everything before resorting to CIO again, but even if LO appeared to be completely asleep, as soon as she was put in the crib, she would wake up, crawl to the side, pull up on the crib and just scream. So I'd pick her up and soothe her, put her back in, and repeat. Over and over and over. For literally, about 1.5 hours to get her to even fall asleep, and then over and over all night every time she would wake up.

So finally , I just decided to let her stand and scream. I figured she would have to get tired and lay down on her own rather than have me lay her down. And...it has worked (for now).

She's such a bad sleeper that I know this isn't the end of our sleep issues but I feel great after sleeping 11-5 this morning with no interruptions, so I'll take what I can get. =)

I hope your LO starts sleeping soon, too. We both deserve some rest.

@imbali: DS is 10.5 months old and yea..... sleep? what's that?! Seriously, he's the king of cat naps. We always cringed when we were out doing errands around 6/7pm and he JUST fell asleep in the car ride as we exit the highway to drive the last 5 minutes home. and BAM! Homie is refreshed and ready to play for the next 2-3 hours. :meh:

@Anagram: You know you're my go to sleep guru because our kiddos are so dang close in age. C sits up when he wakes up in his crib and cries. He'll eventually fall back asleep, but while sitting up. Cue head falling forward, hits crib, and wahhhh. If I go in and lay him down when he sits up though, he'll go back to sleep after a few pat-pats to the butt. How do I get him to stop sitting up or what can I do to help him lay himself back down?

@Anagram: uugghh. that sounds so frustrating. I'm SO happy that she slept through last night. long may it last!

@imbali: We tried CIO with checks at 6 months and it worked...temporarily. Our LO was waking up 6-8 times a night and we sleep trained her down to 2 wakeups where she fed (sounds bad, but that was a big improvement for us).

But then she got RSV and was ill for 2-3 months with a never ending cough and we gave up on good sleep.

Just finally this past week at 10.5 months, we attempted to night wean finally and then this weekend did some light sleep training (it didn't take much, luckily!) and LO slept through the night from 7:30 am-5:00 am for the first time in her LIFE last night. Then she ate at 5 and went back to sleep until 6:15.

Life changing and blissful.

@imbali: we actually did naps first and then bedtime (even though it's usually recommended to do it the other way around) because I literally could not rock him to sleep anymore--it wasn't working. So I had to figure out a way to get him to sleep, so I basically stayed in the room with him until he fell asleep. That was at 5 months. At 6.5 months we tackled bedtime using Ferber.

@imbali: sounds like 1) she has a nurse/rock to sleep association that is not letting her self soothe to sleep, and 2) I would guess she's overtired from the late bedtime and multiple wakeups.

sounds like sleep training is in order! We did it at 6.5 months and had great success in getting LO down to 1 night waking, which was our goal. We used Ferber (CIO with checks) and things were much better by night 3! There are lots of other methods, just depends how you want to handle it/what you and your DH can handle. I personally needed something with quick results because I was dying--I'm a SAHM and was handling all MOTN wakeups as well as getting up with LO first thing in the morning and it was unsustainable.

@lawbee11: thanks! we're not opposed to sleep training, it just didn't really work when we tried! but we'll have to try again. what method did you use? how long did it take for your LO? she wakes up from her second nap around 3 30 or 4 and bedtime is 7 or 7 30...

@sarah.clarisse: we also tried at 6 months with no success :bummed: she's 7months now so we'll try again. so glad to hear that it's working better for you now. fingers crossed that both our LOs start to sleep!

@Rubies: thanks - ya it is brutal. we're comfortable with anything that'll make her sleep. we tried parent-attended CIO about a month ago with no success. maybe we should try CIO without us there? Idk.

@Anagram: thanks for the reply! so sorry that your LO is also a bad sleeper  it's the worst. we also have the exhausted-related fights, it's awful! That doesn't sound bad, it sounds like heaven haha. Are you doing CIO? I think we'll start training again today. eh.

@imbali: so, my baby is a naturally bad sleeper and any of the above can make her sleep worse: going to bed too early, going to bed too late....not napping enough during the day, napping too long....teething is a big one. She's always popping a new tooth through. And then illness--she's had a daycare cough for months that worsens at night.

My LO is 10.5 months old and up until this week was waking up anywhere from 2-6 times a night and my husband and I are also CONSTANTLY exhausted. Our number one cause of fights in our household are due to exhaustion related bitchiness--true story.

This week, LOs sleep got worse (I didn't think it could get worse, but it did), so we are attempting sleep training for the second time. Last night was our first night and LO cried for about 22 minutes initially (she has this new thing where she stands in the crib and screams) before falling asleep a little after 7 pm. Then she cried for 5-6 minutes at 12:30 am, let out 1 cry at around 3 am and then woke up for the day at 5:15.

That sounds bad, but lately she's been waking up all those times and STAYING awake, so it was actually a massive improvement.

Good luck-- there are many methods to work on your LOs sleep. You can find one you are comfortable with--and then try it for at least a week to give it a real shot.

Oh dear, that sounds so tiring. I definitely sympathize - the lack of sleep is brutal.

I do think that your baby has gotten accustomed to some bad habits and my initial suggestion is to retry sleep-training.

What methods of sleep-training are you comfortable with?

I don't have a ton of advice. We also had a great sleeper until 3.5 months and it's been a struggle ever since. We tried sleep training at six months and it didnt help at all. But now he's seven months and this week we tried again and it seems to be working better. When was the last time you tried sleep training? I was surprised that a month made a difference but maybe it will for you too!
Sleep deprivation sucks the life out of you... I totally understand.

@imbali: Oh wow that sounds really rough. It sounds like nursing to sleep isn't working the way you want it to anymore. When that happened for us I had to nap and sleep train so LO would learn to put herself to sleep. If you're not comfortable with sleep training then I don't really have any advice because I don't know how else we would've taught her (I am not comfortable co-sleeping). But this definitely isn't suatainable for any of you. I hope it improves soon!

ETA: What time does she wake up from her second nap and what time are you attempting to put her to bed?

DH and I are dying a slow sleepless death

LO is just about 7months old. She was a really good sleeper until she was 4months old and then everything turned to crap. We tried to sleep train about a month ago unsuccessfully, and then decided to take a break til she got a bit older. BUT - now her sleep is just really untenable.

She takes two naps a day, usually two to four hours total. She'll only nurse or be rocked to sleep, and wont sleep in her crib, only in my arms. She used to sleep 8-10hours straight at night - now she'll sleep 2hours max. And worst of all, she will fall asleep nursing after her bath, and then wake up when we put her down and then be wide awake for the next 3-4 hours...so she is going to bed around 11pm and waking up at 6, with 4-6 wake ups in between. We just cant.

Sorry, this is all a bit long and all over the place. If you've made it this far - any help/advice appreciated. She needs the sleep and so do we
