@JoJoGirl: It is so funny how some people swear it worked for their kid and then other swear that it didn't. All a crap shoot I guess. Can't hurt to try, if you aren't against it.

@Smurfette: Thanks :-/ I appreciate the brainstorming! She'll be 5 months next week, but 4 months this week adjusted. I always heard cereal didn't help. Guess we could try!

@JoJoGirl: How old is she again? Have you tried solids? Would those fill her up more? Everyone swore by rice cereal would help, and it didn't with R cause she was teething. Grasping at straws here for you. I know how hard it is.

@Smurfette: I think hungry. One time I fed her when she woke around 11;30pm and she fell asleep in 2-3 mins. Normally at 2am she eats for 10-11 mins. A couple of times I've rocked her back to sleep instead of feeding her, just to have her wake 20 mins later :-/

@rachiecakes: thanks :( A has never been a 'comfort nurser' - only her paci really does that. If that's what's going on, I have to wrap my mind around it. I'm just tired of being tired :(

@JoJoGirl: I don't know if this is helpful but when J was doing this I was convinced he just missed me during the day. Nothing I did helped him sleep longer except having him near me. (He also started refusing all bottles during the day while I was at work and only wanted to nurse all.night.long.)
::::hugs::::
It did come to an end around 9/10 months, I know it feels like forever. I was a hotmess/zombie/failure at work the whole time. But it will come to an end. And you're doing everything right to encourage her.

@JoJoGirl: I introduced an a a lovey around that age too. I tucked it in between us while we nursed and DH snuggles it with him while they read. We only let him have it if its bed it nap time (or if he is sick but he really hasn't been). He loves it! I just have to check and make sure he hasn't dropped it out of the crib if he is upset

@JoJoGirl: I started giving R an A&A security blanket when nursing at night. Just put it so it was on her face. Then started just putting in the crib with her. I say now when I put in the crib, here is your blankie. Some nights she waves it around like it a white flag, saying I surrender. Then some she ignores it. She doesn't seem to really care that much about it so far, but I think that it can take a while. Last night she ended up at the other end of the crib without it.

@scg00387: Sigh.. I know.. the LC said providers tend to "overfeed"... I asked them to increase her bottles on Thursday and Friday and no difference on those nights, but maybe it'll take some time?

@Smurfette: Actually last night was the most decent night we've had in a while, she slept 8pm-3am, then up again to eat at 5:30am, back to sleep til 6:30am.

We're also trying to swaddle-wean her now, so she's been sleeping with one arm out for a few days, and figured out how to suck her thumb to put herself to sleep (instead of the paci)..hoping that helps too.

@JoJoGirl: hmmm I'm no LC but... That sounds off! If she seems starving at night I would for sure try to offer as much as she wants during the day! Sounds like its reverse cycling if that is the case. Hopefully more oz during the day will change it back in a hurry!

@scg00387: Good question.. I'm not pumping enough to keep up with her intake so my LC had recommended trying to feed her LESS. I've since scratched that plan and am having them give her as much as she wants, so hopefully that will help...

I wouldn't CIO in the MOTN at this point, and have read about night weaning (lessening feeds by a minute, etc).. but I thought you can only do that once you've established they are eating for comfort, not hunger? She is pretty ravenous at her MOTN feeds so I'm not sure if I can cut them out.. :-/ And yes, maybe you're right we were just luck to have stretches that long at all :( Boohoo!

@JoJoGirl: if the change coincided with starting day care is she eating less there during the day? Can your SO go in to soothe instead at the 2 or 4 feeding? We never got an 8-9 hour stretch until he was finally STTN at 9 months, you were lucky to have that so young wow! I personally would be uncomfortable with CIO that young; maybe you could try a different method to eliminate one night feed?

We went through the same thing between 4 and 5 months. His long stretch kept getting shorter and shorter and all of a sudden I was feeding him 4-5 times per night. It was driving me crazy! My pediatrician recommended I wait 15 minutes when he started crying at night before getting him. It worked pretty well. We're back to one night feeding. He now sleeps 6:30-1am, eats, and then sleeps until 4:30-5am when he's up for the day...

At A's 4 month check-up, her ped asked me if she's consistently sleeping 8-9 hrs at a time yet, as she should be. I answered yes.. she was going to bed at 7:30pm, getting up at 4-4:30 to eat, then up for the day at 5:30-6. I was annoyed her wakeups were early and I complained about going back to bed from 4-5:30. Hahahahahaha.

She's STTN *once*, 7:30-5:30, then back to sleep til 7.....that was a good day.....

Ever since then, which was also when she started daycare, she started getting up almost every night at 2am!!! Who shaved 2 hrs off her long stretch?

I've tried soothing her back to sleep at 2am to see if we could night wean that feeding, but it's never worked. It's been a few weeks now so I don't think it's a growth spurt. I'm at a loss! The last couple of nights she's gotten up at 2 AND 4 to eat. I'm so tired I had a nervous breakdown at work on Friday.

She's almost 5 months, but was 3 weeks early, so about 4 months adjusted, if that matters... any ideas?!
