I think I mentioned this in our private group- but we don't take her out of her crib unless her diaper is dirty. We just pop in and tell her it's time to rest her body and that she needs to sleep in her own bed. Then she will cry hard for 1-2 minutes then go back to sleep.

@littlejoy: that's really awesome! He loves kefir too, and I bet the protein helps with the natural sugars in the juice.

@mrsbubbletea: A natural living blog I follow gives it to her son (mixed with kefir) after dinner. 30 min - 1 hr before bed. There have been studies published in medical journals - the groups drinking the tart cherry juice had measurable boosts in melatonin. Pretty cool.

I meant to add, we are are "boring" as possible during bedtime and wake-ups during the night. Bedtime is book reading + 2 songs. We discourage conversation (unless it relates to the book). We keep everything simple and sweet, "Goodnight! We'll see you in the morning!" and leave. In the middle of the night, if she comes into our room, we get up quickly and tell her we're taking her back to her room. We keep it so boring, and keep putting her back if she gets up. If she's hysterical, we always accommodate cuddles, but it generally doesn't get like this.

@littlejoy: do you know when you should give them the tart cherry juice? Right before bed?

Our child still struggles with sleep at 3.

The best advice I got was to leave her in her crib as long as possible (but she started climbing out at 2.25, so we had to transition to a bed).

Also, magnesium and essential oils are said to help. Tart cherry juice boosts natural melatonin levels. No screen time before bed.

We do a lot of chatting about how awesome her room is, that she's safe, that her room is for sleeping (no toys in her room ... just books and her bed).

Instead of stickers, we use a piggy bank with pennies. It works sometimes.

I'd double check your LO's overall sleep time in 24 hours. I'd say that he needs 13-15 hours of sleep with nap and nighttime combined. I have threads on here about sleep - and there are others that were so helpful to me.

I agree with @catomd00: that a sticker chart might work on the older side of 2. My son is 2.5 and has been a great sleeper since we sleep trained him young, but after a bunch of recent illnesses was testing boundaries in the sleep department. I implemented a sticker chart and he's obsessed with it and it's totally working. Basically if (1) he sleeps in his own crib all night and (2) no crying or yelling during the night, he gets a sticker/stamp in the morning. 5 stickers = pick a prize from the prize bucket.

Older two, you might try a sticker chart if he is motivated by rewards.

My 2 year old has never been a great sleeper, but lately it has gotten worse. At bed time he cries and cries and won't let us put him down. And he frequently awakes in the middle of the night or early morning and again refuses to be put down. I haven't had a decent sleep in 2 years. I'm so tired! I'm THIS close to hiring a sleep consultant or someone. Do you have any tips on sleep training a 2 year old? Last night we let him cry and scream for 40 minutes before giving in. I'm afraid that check ins would make him more mad, but maybe they're worth a try?
