Just posting with happy news! Rocking to sleep finally stopped working so we went ahead with some CIO...she cried for about 15 minutes the first night and then passed out. The second night was maybe 5 minutes, and since then she just whimpers at me when I put her in the crib but is fine by the time I get down the hall. Tonight I put her in her crib and she said "nightnight" and rolled right over to get cozy. Holy crap it actually worked.

Celebrating where I can. I could use a win!

We have had to redo sleep training a few times after various developmental changes/stages etc, but it has always been much much easier than it was initially - like a miniature version of sleep training.

@Mrs. Lion: Oh, I'm so glad it was encouraging for you. It was BRUTAL that one night at our house (I had headphones in AND was as far away from her room as I could get--DH has a higher tolerance than I do for it) but then it was life-changing. I'm also pregnant so I felt like I was truly losing my mind. I hope it works for you!!

@mfa_lady: Oh man, this is what I needed to hear. I can suck it up and listen to it if I know it is what she needs. My momma heart is just having a hard time letting her cry when she has never had this struggle before and it seems like it came out of nowhere! I am traveling next week, but this might be what we have to do. Sad :(

This happened to us at almost exactly the same age. She'd been going down great from 4-12 months. At 12 months, she kept going to bed fine but got really crazy overnight--waking hysterical multiple times, not being able to be soothed. I think that was a combo of molars + walking. Anyway, after that finally ended (took roughly a month) we had a good few weeks and then she started doing what your DD is doing--refusing bedtime with a PASSION. (I posted about it here: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/random-and-vicious-fight-against-bedtime#post-2530105)

Finally, at her 15 months appointment (she was actually almost 16 months by then) our pediatrician was like "Guys, what do you think I'm going to tell you to do? You gotta let her cry." Her theory is that by that age, they're smart enough to know that if you go in after 30 minutes of crying the first night, they'll just cry for 40 the following night.

Anyway, we did it. IT SUCKED, for one night. (I won't lie, she cried so hard she threw up.) But then the next night she cried for less than five minutes and has gone to bed fine (fingers and toes and all appendages crossed) for the last two months.

Good luck, mama!

I don't have any advice, just commiseration and following for other's advice!

Our 18 month old was so easy to put to bed and then went through a couple weeks separation anxiety with screaming fits at bedtime. Now we're stuck laying next to his toddler bed till he falls asleep.. and he ends up in our bed usually by midnight every.single.night. That would be fine except for being up from 1-3 last night and at 3 am the day before.

I keep hoping he'll just start sleeping all night again, but we're going on 1 month plus of this...

So my 17 month old did just fine going into her crib "drowsy but awake" her entire life, until about 2 months ago, when she started becoming completely hysterical at bedtime. we chalked it up to teething and separation anxiety and tried to ride it out by rocking her to sleep, but things are starting to get much worse and shes waking during the night again too.

Do sleep regressions just end? Or have we created a habit that we need to break? we tried CIO a couple times and she gets so completely hysterical that she chokes and gags. I am not opposed to it but it didnt really seem to be working.

Help!
