I don't have experience sleep training an older baby but in terms of your bedtime routine, you could either move nursing earlier in the routine or nurse her with the lights on. If she gets drowsy, just don't be so gentle when you put her down.

I know a lot of books would say that an 11-month can go all night without food but every baby is different. If she gets the rest of her night sorted out and falls back asleep with that early am feed then I would keep it. If she starts to not fall back asleep or doesn't seem to be eating much then I would sleep train through that waking. My LO used to have a 'night feed' at 6am but once he stopped falling back asleep I stopped feeding him and would get him up for the day and wait 30-45 minutes after he got up to give him 'breakfast.'

Good luck!

We successfully sleep trained LO when she was about 6 months old, but everything's unraveled after tons of traveling, teething, sickness, etc. I've been putting off re-training her, but at 11 months old, she needs to be rocked to sleep (sometimes up to an hour at a time) and she's waking up at all hours of the night. I'm tired, I'm cranky, I'm exhausted, and I'm at my wit's end.

Some questions for those of you that successfully re-trained an older baby:

1. Our bedtime routine currently is: bath, lotion, story, sleep sack, and nursing in the dark with sleep machine on to get her sleepy. I want to avoid nursing her to sleep, right? Does this mean I should reverse the order and nurse her first, and just directly put her into the crib after her bath?

2. How long can a 11-month-old go without an overnight feeding? If she's down by 7PM, should I not go back in until at least 5AM?
