@erinbaderin: 3 times! Oh my. With DS1 I don’t really remember what we did! Good to know there could be a regression.

We’ve done three nights now and last night was miserable. The going to bed was pretty good. He fussed/shouted a few times and then Kaye’s quietly fighting sleep. It took him almost half an hour. But then he kept waking up for no reason. Hopefully he does better tonight!

We sleep trained our oldest son three times (...sigh) and yes, you basically just pick a day. We did various methods, but it's great that the first night went so well! I'll pass on the warnings that all the sleep trainers gave us - it takes about 10 days to really cement in, and they might have a "burst" somewhere between days 4-7 where things get worse and you feel like the whole thing has failed. Hang in there, it's just a brief regression!

I pulled the plug and started tonight. Less than 5 minutes of crying then he stopped and went to sleep. I’m hoping night 1 isn’t just some fluke!

When I just came up to bed he had rolled onto his tummy for the first time to sleep. Hopefully this helps him sleep better.

@ALV91711: It has been a while since I sleep trained but we did it right around 4 months for our two. I would pick a day that is good for you. For us it was a Friday night so we had the weekend to adjust. I'm not familiar with the method you're going to use but for us it was easiest to have DH do the sleep training with me out of the house. I wasn't performing any task DH couldn't do and the LOs didn't have the complexity of having their food source walking in and out of their room at checks.

DS2 is 4.5 months old and a terrible sleeper. We know we need to teach him to go to sleep on his own. I’ve been ready the sleep lady shuffle book and we think we will try this. For now our goal is to get him going to sleep in his own. We will tackle the bazillion wakings once he is a bit older.

My question is do you just pick a day & start? Should we start on a day when he has napped good or does it matter?

He does have a bedtime routine. The only thing that will have to change is he either nurses/rocks to sleep.

Any tips/tricks/success stories?
