This is my life. Only my son is almost 2. Ultimately it takes daddy stepping up. For about 2 weeks if he woke up and wouldn't go back to sleep with no boobie, daddy would pace with him. The other thing we would do (and you may not want to) is if he wouldn't calm down, we would put him in his room to cry. The idea was that our room wasn't for crying. Then if he calmed down or when he woke up again he came into our room again. Now, he sleeps from 7 - 4:30 am and 5:00 - 7:00 am. </p> <p>Things we tried but didn't work for us - hard spout sippee cups to simulate the sucking motion, me trying to comfort him, reducing the time he was allowed to nurse at any one time.</p> <p>We went from 4 wakings a night to only one waking a night. It's a pretty great system for us, and has been totally the right thing. But he still wakes up several times a night (1-2 if all is well, up to every hour or so if not) and often can only fall back to sleep with the help of a boob. </p> <p>Recently, though, he's started showing signs of being ready to fall asleep on his own, particularly for the night wakings. We really want to encourage this, but none of the typical sleep training procedures deal with a co-sleeping or bed sharing situation. Sometimes I think it must be impossible, but then I figure that folks who co-sleep for 4 or 5 years must have figured out how to night wean somehow.</p> <p>Help me, Hellobee! Who's got experience with this? </p>
