We basically did the sleep lady shuffle- although I didn't know that's what it was at the time, ha! It worked really well for teaching her how to put herself asleep, and how to stay asleep through a transfer. Now if she's having trouble falling asleep occasionally, I can nurse her and set her down. It's awesome- never could do that before.
It didn't help much with middle of the night wake ups, but we didn't really do anything for those other than hope. And wait. It got better over time, especially after we moved her out of our room at about 8 months.

@Zbug: She fights going to sleep so hard. I inevitably end up nursing her to sleep, and then she wakes up on the transfer, so we're back to bouncing and crying til she tires herself out. This can go on a few times, even with daddy taking a turn putting her down, before it finally "sticks." I don't mind the 1 (or 2, if really necessary) night wakeups to nurse, but the bedtime battle just wears me out, and I don't get any me time. Come home from work, make and eat dinner, get LO ready for bed, battle for two hours, then bedtime for myself.

I think we're going to check out Good Night, Sleep Tight and try the Sleep Lady Shuffle first, and go from there. She'll cry, but at least I'll be there to comfort her.

We waited until 10 months, but did the sleep sense method. It's not completely without crying, but you are there with the child the whole time. It was very successful and took 1 and 3 nights for dd and ds respectively. We night weaned and nap trained all at the same time so there weren't any mixed messages. I so dreaded it, but I don't regret it at all because their quality of sleep improved so drastically, and they were so much happier throughout their days too. Best of luck with whatever you decide!

Hugs! Our LOs are about the same age. We are currently just doing the wait it out approach (http://nurshable.com/2013/07/17/what-exactly-is-the-wait-it-out-method-of-sleep-training-wio-defined/) for her night wakeups, but I can't imagine how frustrating a two hour bedtime fight must be. Does she just fight going to bed or what's going on? Just wanted to offer empathy. Sleep issues suck.

Another sleep thread today! We're going to start sleeping training with LO in a few weeks, she'll be six months old. Most times once she falls asleep, she does alright, but it's the getting to sleep in the first place that's awful. She's never been able to fall asleep on her own, and we nurse to sleep pretty much every night. I don't want to start with CIO (though we'll go there if we need to). What non-CIO methods did you try? Was it successful? How long did it take? Did you nap train at the same time? I am really dreading this, but right now bedtime is approximately a two hour battle, and this can't go on.
