@ksnow: this isn't the same for everyone, but with my boys if I feed them at the earlier ones, they still wake up later. This applies to dream feeds too.

For 5 am if he isn't unhappy, just leave him alone. If he's grumpy but still sleepy, you can try rocking him (this rarely worked for us). If he's starving just get him up and feed him and try to make another nap later longer. Or just push bedtime earlier. Those early wakings are usually just temporary, although they can last a few months.

@brownepiano: thanks that makes sense. I was worried about feeding him at first wake up when he wasn't insisting, and basically just locking myself in for another one...maybe he just needs a few more nights to get past that first wake up. I'll try again tonight. At 5 do you think you'd just leave him in crib/CIO, or get him up for day, or try to help him back to sleep?

I would not feed him at the midnight wake up. If he'll go back to sleep with just a check then he should be able to make it longer.
If you can stand it, I'd do cio at the midnight wake up. It sounds like he is walking out of habit and expecting you to pacify him. Then I'd feed him like normal at the 2-3 am wake up. At 5 am I'd try to hold him off till 6 am and just start your day then. If he can get used to that he might start sleeping till 6 or 7 again.
DS did go through a time when he just got up for the day at 5/5:30 but it was a phase that passed.

@Finfan: @catlady: thanks guys. I tried for last 4 nights to cut the midnight wake up figuring i'd try one at a time, no luck. He just worked himself up more until I did a check. I think i'll try now maybe to just feed him at the midnight wake up? I wasn't thinking he was hungry since he settles back down for another 2-3 hours after, but who knows.

This is still a big improvement from where we started, but I think 3 times a night is still a bit much.

Maybe he is actually hungry the first time he wakes? When we trained at that age, I would see if LO wanted to nurse if she woke past 11pm or so. Then she would usually sleep until her early morning one (usually around 4am) and then again until 6-7ish.

I would not check in on him at midnight and I would drop the 3am feeding as well. You could do one at a time if you feel more comfortable with that.

I started sleep training my 6 month old about 2 weeks ago? His sleep has improved a LOT already, but I guess I'm unsure of the next step.

I haven't had his 6 month appointment yet, he got a bit behind in a move, so I haven't heard from the DR if I should drop all night feedings or not. I imagine the answer is it's okay (he's progressing normally and nearly 20 lbs.).

He is sleeping about 7-7. When I put him down he does a light fussing for 5 minutes and then is alseep. However, he still wakes up around 11-1 once or twice and fusses 5-10 minutes. He usually requires one check in before he goes back to sleep. Should I just stop going in to see if it will stop?

He is also still eating around 2-3 AM. I don't mind one night time feeding. I'm not sure if it's causing the overall issue though by introducing confusion by picking him up in middle of the night?

He wakes around 5 and wants to nurse again. I know it hasn't been long enough where he 'needs it' from last feeding, but if I don't he seems happy to get up for the day. If I nurse him he sleeps until 7.

What should I do next? Not check on him during midnight fussing? Drop his feeding at 2 and just do checks until he gets past it? Try a dream feed?
