We moved when DS was about 15 months, first in with my mom (without DH) and then into our new house about month later. I think mostly because DH was only around on the weekends, DS really started fighting bedtime and CIO never worked. Rather than fallung asleep he would pace around his crib for hours. Once we all got into the new house we got DS to start falling asleep in his crib with one of us sitting next to it. We still do this and sometimes he fights sleep so whoever is in there will leave for a few minutes until DS really starts crying then when one of us goes back in he is ready to just fall asleep. We were cosleeping once he woke up but lately he has just decided to stay in his room, either sttn in his crib or waking and asking to get into his big boy bed. Maybe this method could be an alternative to CIO if that doesn't work for you.

I never really sleep trained until lo was 16 months old and it was tough but it seemed like the right age for her. By 18 months it would have been "MAMA! COME MAMA!" and that would have been rough. The thing I thought a lot about at 16 months though was that she KNEW how to fall asleep on her own and sttn, and she was not teething, hungry, or sick. It was more like a tantrum, and so I stuck to it. The first couple nights were rough but nights three and four were only a very little bit of crying in the motn. Aside from illness she's done much better since. Crossing my fingers it stays this way. Good luck!

@NovBaby1112: Yes! I've been sitting in the glider and rocking her for 30-40 minutes before she even closes her eyes. Then I hold her for an extra 15-20 minutes before I even dare put her in the crib otherwise she'd wake up clawing on my arm before I even put her down. So some nights it can take up to an hour! I ain't got time for that! Last night I couldn't take it anymore so I just put her in the crib and left the room. She was screaming for 30 minutes and I ended up getting her and bringing her to my bed. Once her head hit the pillow she fell asleep. Sigh. I just don't know if I can sleep train a toddler!

We sleep trained at 6.5 months, and around 19 months my LO's sleep went to crap. Screaming when going into crib, fighting bedtime, early wakings, etc. This went on for about 2-3 weeks. TBH i find sleep training a toddler to be almost impossible (although mine is not in a crib anymore, but on floor bed due to climbing out). I think all of this was related to the 18 month regression and she also had a huge language explosion. Things have Finally calmed down a bit- I still have to lay down next to her until she falls asleep, but lately it's only taking around 30 mins. We've been putting her to bed later also which has helped- around 8:30pm and for the last few mornings she's slept until 7:30ish. Hoping we are out of it! Good luck if you do decide to sleep train!!

I'm sorry you're going through this!
Do u think it could be related to the 18 month sleep regression? Maybe he'll be back to normal in a week or two?

I know mrs. Wagon retrained LMW when she was 18 months so you might want to wall her about it!

I am so sorry! My twin girls are 20 months and one of them went through an 18 mo sleep regression that just happened to come along with the arrival of her molars.

She too went from going down great to not so great. What worked for us was putting her down the same way we were when walking out of her room but instead of walking out we would sit in the glider until she was asleep.

In the beginning I think the longest we sat in there was 12/13 minutes then each night we stayed in the glider a shorter amount of time. It may sound crazy but its what worked for us!

Good luck and hang in there

I don't have any suggestions, sorry, just wanted to send some support your way. DS is 18 months, too (born Jan 4) and has never really STTN, so we are starting sleep training him by doing CIO. It sucks. Good luck and hugs!

DD is 18 months old and she use to be able to go to sleep on her own. I just put her in her crib and walk out the room and she's out within a few minutes. Two weeks ago we moved into a new house and she was also sick (hand, foot, mouth). She refused to sleep in her crib and I get it. It was unfamiliar and she wasn't feeling well. So I totally babied her and let her sleep in bed with me or I will rock her to sleep and them put her in her crib. Well now it's been almost two weeks and I need her to be able to go to sleep on her own again. I can't believe I have to sleep train her AGAIN. Ugh!! I feel like it's harder now to hear her scream and cry. It totally breaks my heart. Have you had to resleep train your toddler? How did it go? Was it easier or harder than sleep training a baby?
