DD majority of the time slept swaddled in a portable crib next to my bed for the first 2 months with soft white noise, naps were in the swing or on me/carried. The 3rd month, I started letting her nap and sleep in the crib, swaddled, a little rocking, songs and lots of patting, and soft white noise. We tried to keep the routine the same for both naps and sleep time early on. I think for most, it's challenging no matter what you do, but i think establishing a routine, and keeping consistencies helps.

Night time wasn't an issue for us, she would sleep in her cot just fine...though we ended up nap training by CIO at 3mths because she would not nap anywhere but on me or in the car up to that point!

DD slept in a bassinet in our room for the first 8 weeks. At that point, we did a week of crib naps (which were VERY VERY short - like 6 30 min naps), and then just started putting her in her crib. We rocked her to sleep and snuggled her close to the side of the crib first, but now we lay her down awake in the middle of the crib just fine.

It took a bit of trial and error though - she needs the same routine, the same music, and some light.

I'm thinking way ahead here but I was wondering what was a successful way you trained your kiddo to sleep without you? Currently my baby sleeps with us in the bed at night, and during the day he either sleeps in his swing, in my arms or in a carrier strapped to my chest. I was wondering if this is harboring a dependence on sleeping with me, or is it a struggle down the road no matter what? How did you get your baby to sleep by himself/herself?
