@peaches1038: I did that seated stretch, and also one called the table stretch. But I did it in the bathroom where I could hold onto the sink and really pull my weight away from it to stretch more. I think that helped a lot

This stretch should help too. Also try using a heating pad on your hip/butt. You can also try using a tennis ball to massage the painful area

@MaryM: that's great. And pretty much what I needed to do. The back support really helps.

@maddyz: I slept against the snoogle last night, and put two king sized pillows between my knees. My legs were basically at a 90 degree angle to each other, but I slept a ton better!

I have no advice but will be looking at suggestions as I fully expect my sciatica to act up as I go through the next several months.

I found that the snoogle wasn't thick enough to properly support my hips. I ended up getting a normal body pillow that was MUCH thicker and that helped a lot. My husband had to sleep on the very edge of the bed I had so many pillows...

I also slept the wat @mrbubbletea explains before my reflux was so bad I needed to be more upright.

I did some simple PT exercises that stabilized my hips and that also helped.

@mrsjd: yes to stretching. If you just put your toe against a wall and leave your heel on the floor, you can lean and bend to stretch hamstring and calves. I do it several times a day to try and stave off sciatica pain (in and out of pregnancy) and when I feel it striking while walking or whatever I stop and find a wall and do a quick stretch. Yes I look weird doing it on a nyc sidewalk, but it instantly helps.

I found a little comfort using pillows to sleep so far on my side I was almost on my stomach, with my tummy supported by pillows so I wasn't actually on it. Or, on the other hand, using pillows to be on my back but on the side so my weight was tilted, bringing the weight of my belly to the side. I hope you find a comfortable position! The sleep disturbances of pregnancy are so annoying :(

@mrsjd: Yeah...I think my commute is making things worse. And that I have a desk job.

But when I get home at night (it takes about an hour and a half), I'm SO stiff standing up to get out of the car!

Stretch and exercise! There are some good youtube videos about how to stretch to eliminate sciatic pain. I get sciatic pain outside of pregnancy and had some during. For me, stretching my hamstrings usually helps. And then exercising and making sure to move regularly is critical for me. The worst thing for sciatic pain is to sit or lay down. If you can't find relief from that, chiropractic help is also great.

I physically could not sleep on my left side in either of my pregnancies. It was so painful after 10 minutes. I slept a lot basically sitting upright and leaning against my headboard in a sea of pillows. I also would sometimes sleep on my right side, but sort of tilted more onto my back with a bunch of pillows jammed in under my belly, back, and legs. Basically, lots and lots of pillows and smoosh them until you find a position that works. You’re over halfway!

@skiierchck99: I tried sleeping in our guest bed that has a fluffier topper, and it didn't really help. In googling, it seemed firmer is better. Our mattress is firm with a pillow top.

@MaryM: Have you considered getting a mattress topper so it's less firm and your hip has something to sink into? I have a firm mattress with a 3 inch foam topper on top and I think that's really helped....when I have stayed on other beds that have less give it is much less comfortable to me.

So I figured it'd get harder to sleep toward the end...but I'm only 26 weeks! And sciatica is already keeping me up at night.

I have a firm mattress, already sleep with a snoogle between my legs, a wedge under my belly, and my last addition was an extra pillow at my feet to help keep my legs straight.

Of course it's the left hip that hurts (and they say to sleep on the left side!). I've tried sleeping on the right, but that hurts too. If I sleep on my back, the pressure of the baby makes my lower back hurt.

Any suggestions? Between the sciatica and restless legs I slept a whole 4 hours (in two stretches) on Saturday night. Sunday night, I got more sleep by sleeping in the recliner. But I don't really want to do that for the next three months!
