We're just getting home from a road trip today. With three kids we opted to stay at houses via Airbnb. It was so nice! No more expensive than a hotel yet we had a kitchen and bedrooms for the kids.

The 17 month old is in a travel crib. Our almost 5 year old just sleeps in our bed. We usually get a King size and that's more than enough room.

We traveled for 3 weeks in Asia back in October. The sleeping arrangement worked no matter what hotel we were at bc the younger one is crazy and needs his own space to sleep. We traveled with just my oldest when she was at that age, but she could sleep with us in the bed no problem. Even when she was younger, we acted as the barricade so she wouldn't fall over.

So depends on the kid :)

also edited to add: if you travel often, invest in a quality travel crib. it helps a lot! We have the Guava Lotus and love it's portability, easy set up, and how you can wear it on your back like a backpack

Our kids aren't the type to share a bed with us. Well DD might but none of us would sleep. We also get a suite or something with at least one extra bedroom and make sure we can get a crib not a pack n play. Dd sleeps in the crib in our room or a hall and ds sleeps in a bed in one room, we sleep in the other bedroom.

We went to Punta Cana for a week and upgraded to a room with a separate master. So ds slept on the pull out in the main part of the room and dd slept in a crib in the bedroom with us.

We all go to bed at the same time when we travel, so we do just fine in a single room. I prefer to have at least the 2 queen bed set up, but if that's not available, we do one king and the three of us sleep together.

We just did this for the first time last weekend with our 2.5 yr old. Single room, him in a cot with rails from home, us in a king. We put him to bed as usual and said we were going to bed too. We just ignored him and played on our phones under the covers and watched a movie with earphones on the iPad when he fell asleep. It worked way better than expected!

We usually sleep all on one room, even if we have a suite. We just use the living room part to stay up and hang out while the kids sleep. As far as how we actually sleep, it depends on the bed situation. If it's two queen beds we each take a kid and make a pillow barricade. If it's 1 kind for some reason, we get a rollaway bed for our oldest and try to put LO2 in a travel crib, but she would definitely end up on our bed at some point.

They don't usually have sleeping problems when we travel.

The last hotel we stayed in we had a "family room" but not a suite. It was just a large (by European standards) room with a queen bed and a pull out couch. The kids slept together on the pull out couch. We've generally had very few problems sharing a room with them in hotels and getting them to sleep.

I avoid staying in a one room hotel if at all possible, but if we have to, we usually start with the almost 4 yo in her own bed, the 1.5 yo in a pack and play, and DH and I sharing the second bed. But usually both kids will wake up and DH sleeps with the big one and ill snuggle the baby in our bed. And we brig the sound machine of course.

I really dislike all sleeping in one room.

We aim for a 1bdrm suite where we can close the door, like at extended stay.

So far kids have slept on pullout (older) and crib/pnp (younger) - they like sleeping next to each other but aren't touching. They go to bed early so then we can close the door and stay up and have the king to ourselves.

But I think we're probably past the crib by this Christmas (he'll be almost 3) and then I don't know if we try them together on pullout or what.

Now with 2 kids we get 2 bedroom suites. DS1 sleeps in his Privacy Pop tent with a twin air mattress and DS2 sleeps in a PNP. If we can, we have the boys separated by putting the PNP in the second bathroom. If that's not possible they just share the room. We also travel with their white noise machines so they don't disturb each other.

She never sleeps as well in hotels as she does at home and starts her day really early. We'll put her in bed with us and let her watch a movie so we can rest a bit more.

At ages 3 and 4, we get a two-room suite. One kid sleeps with me, one alone, and Dh on a pull out. Some hotels (like the one we stayed in all this week) only have 2 doubles so they're super small if you or dh is taller!

Earlier this week we stayed somewhere else and it was two queens but a one room non-suite and we just each took a kid.

When baby 3 comes someone will go to a cot we'll bring or a travel crib most likely.

When you travel with kids, what sleeping arrangement works best for you family? When DS1 was a baby and toddler, he just slept in bed with us because he wouldn't sleep alone in an unfamiliar bed and he never did well in a pack n play. Now, often, DH sleeps with DS1 and DS2 sleeps in a crib, and I sleep alone. But DS2 never sleeps through the night on vacation so he usually ends up with me.
