@serendipity: Yes, my OB prescribed it.

@Foodnerd81: I've taken it before in very small doses and it works perfectly for me.

Did your OB prescribe Ambien? I've seen pregnant women on Ambien but if it were me I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a category C med during pregnancy. There are safer alternatives such as Unisom and Benadryl.

Yah I would start off with Unisom. It's helped many a pregnant woman fall asleep - plus together with b6, it can help fight nausea!

http://www.hellobee.com/2011/11/17/nausea-treatments/

Personally, I wouldn't, but I don't know how bad your sleeping problems are. Have you taken Ambien before and know how it affects you? I ask, because I have taken it (non preg, obviously) and it doesn't even help me that much, so it definitely wouldn't be worth any minimal risk for me, since I also know the benefit is minimal. But if you know it will help you, that's different.
I guess I would try anything natural first (warm milk, no TV or screen time for an hour or more before bed, etc) but if it is really problematic, like you are at risk of falling asleep on your way to work, then yeah, the benefits certainly outweigh the risks!

I would try unisom first. I used it for morning sickness early in my pregnancy. And now I use it very infrequently if I'm having a hard time sleeping. Just half a Unisom does the trick for me. And I would feel more comfortable with that than Ambien.

During my pregnancy I tried to avoid all medication, so I personally would try other remedies first.

I have no idea about Ambien and pregnancy, but have you already tried Unisom? It's not nearly as strong but I know it's okay during pregnancy.

My doctor prescribed Ambien to me after I told him I was having serious trouble sleeping. Mine is not totally pregnancy related but more in regards to stress while I'm going through a family crisis. There is mixed information online, although from my limited understanding it looks like not very much research has been done in regards to the effects of sleeping pills on the fetus.

I don't want to harm my child by taking sleep aids, but I'm also very worried about the effects not sleeping is having on my pregnancy. I don't know which one would be worse.

What do you think? What would you do?
