We're in the process of stopping swaddling and we started by swaddling only one arm, and leaving one arm out. When she's having a restless night where she's flailing her one arm, I usually just go in and gently hold it down so she can't hit or scratch herself, and she falls asleep pretty quickly.

I have friends whose babies needed to be swaddled until 8 or 9 months. They used the Miracle Blanket. We use the Miracle Blanket a night for our LO... it's the only one that she hasn't been able to escape from.

We used woombie till Eli was ready at 4.5 months. We just kept trying to put him down with one arm out and see if he would fall asleep OK. If not, I would go back in and reswaddle him. Don't force it if he's not ready. Once we saw that Eli was able to fall asleep during naps, that night, we put him down w/o any swaddling, just a sleep sack and he slept fine.

You might want to try the sack suggested in this thread?

DS is now 5 mos and he cannot sleep without being swaddled; however, he's getting too big to sleep in a sleep sack and gets out of any swaddle we try with a blanket.

Past couple of naps, we tried to put him down without being swaddled and it's been terrible. He's always either scratching his head (little bit of cradle cap left) , face (eczema), or just plain punching his face with his arms. He just can't seem to relax and needs to be constrained to fall asleep.

Any advice would be helpful.
