Changing diapers and taking off clothes (but I had winter babies so maybe that's more effective when it's colder)

@bhbee: The only thing that kept my son up for the very very short time we nursed (I had already deciddd against it, that's another story, but wanted him to get colostrum) was a wet washcloth. He was soooooo sleepy, I had no idea what was going on bc our daughter was totally the opposite.

Anyway but the real reason I came on here was to say congrats!!! 💗

Congrats, I'm so, so happy she's here

I had a LO who wouldn't sleep at all, unless he was latched on, in which case that's all he wanted to do :silly: We stripped down to a diaper and I'd stroke his jaw line or tickle his toes.

My son wanted to do nothing but sleep, so we would have to strip him down, mess with his feet, cool damp wash cloth on his back, and switch positions or shift my weight enough to aggravate him.

@bhbee: Wow! She's here! Congratulations on your beautiful rainbow baby! My baby girl turned a month old today, and started as a "snacker" who would only be on for 5-10 minutes and then fall asleep. The best thing that's helped us is, honestly, time. Within the first few weeks she learned how to latch herself, eat longer, and is already eating more efficiently. My son needed a nipple shield for two months, so having her already be a "pro" at nursing is a completely novel ideal to me! Enjoy your beautiful bundle of joy!

Take clothes off and use a wet wash cloth or a wipe to annoy them - rub on back etc. They get pissy but wakes them up!

Congrats!!

@pachamama: thanks for checking on me! The nerve pain has pretty much receded to where it started and not as severe - just finished the antivirals today - so that’s all good. I’m super wiped out and it seems worse than I remember for pp so I’m guessing it’s still draining my system a little (I also stopped taking my extra iron then which may not be helping) but overall I’m thankful to be in a much better place!

A lactation consultant taught me that tickling under their chin makes them swallow. A cool wet wash cloth also helps in a pinch.

My DD was a super sleepy newborn - we had to wake her for most feedings. We would strip her down to just a diaper and then stroke her cheek to help encourage her to stay awake and suck. But we also had to put a cool wet washcloth on her about 50% of the time.

I had to strip E naked and then was told to stroke her cheek, it helped with sucking and kept her awake. If it was really bad my husband would rub her feet.

What are your favorite tips for keeping baby eating when they’re still tired? (She’s a little less than 2 days so I know it will improve with time anyway)

I’m undressing her but feel like my hands are already busy getting her to latch (football hold is working best for now) so all I can do is kind of rub her head after that. My last one was a barracuda from his first moment so I’ve forgotten this part! :silly:

What worked for you? Thanks!
