This was my first sign of labor. I woke up in the middle of the night and had to poop. It was really unusual for me to have to go #2 during the night so I had a feeling something was up. I kept getting in and out of bed to go. The like and hour later, contractions started and I had my baby 15 hours later.

My body cleaned itself out before labor but I will kindly spare you the details, :) it was not normal poops and it was not just poop. And it happened very quickly as part of my labor ... baby arrived 12 hours later.

I had awful diarrhea the night before I went into labor (but it was all at once and was a definite "cleansing" of the system). The nurse that taught our childbirth prep class said it was common in the day(s) leading up to labor. I even told DH afterwards that baby was coming soon (and I was right!).

I too took this as a sign that my labour was impending, but in the end I didn't go into labour until about 5 days later. Just before I went into labour, everything was normal and I didn't have any frequent stools, diarrhea, or anything.

I had that once my contractions started. Small, regular poops, not diarrhea or anything. It was annoying- I just wanted one big one!

Still pretty sure I pooped while pushing.

For me it happened about 2 hours after contractions started but it was definitely more like diarrhea. It definitely felt like everything was being cleaned out for labor!

I was dialated to 4 and LO was at a +2 station and I had to go all the time. Just like you describe normal little poops.

ETA I went into preterm labor at almost 33 weeks. I was put on bedrest after that and put on meds to stop contractions. Then I went into labor at 36 weeks and had her. So I had this issue for almost 3 weeks. I couldnt wait to have a normal poop again.

I haven't had this experience (I was induced early) but I did hear about it during my childbirth class. I guess you'll see! :)

I have heard that frequent bowel movements (in addition to everything else that goes along with progressing toward labor) is a good sign that labor is pending. It is the body's way of cleaning out the lower intestines in prep for labor and birth.

I have been super constipated my entire pregnancy. I mean, if I don't take extra fiber, it ain't happenin' and even when I do, it is, well, work. (Oh the perks of pregnancy!) But today I have been a poop machine! Seriously! I go nearly as much as I pee and it isn't like my stomach is messed up. It's not. Totally normal poops. Just a TON of trips to the bathroom! It has been nice not to have to work for it actually. lol.

Has anybody ever heard/experienced this? Dr. Google seems to agree but we know how reliable that medical license is....

(I knew baby poop was a normal conversation but I never thought I would be discussing my own!)
