@maybebaby: When we but out the bottle LO went on a milk strike for like 3 weeks. I called the pedi and he said as long as he was getting enough other dairy (cheese, yogurt, etc) that it was ok and he would eventually understand that his milk was going to come in a different container! Now he drinks a couple cups of milk a day. Our favorite cup is http://www.amazon.com/Nuby-No-Spill-Straw-Ounce-Colors/dp/B004T4NO56/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1409667863&sr=8-11&keywords=nuby+straw+cup

We don't use the straw and he uses it like a sippy cup and it comes out WAY slower than a regular sippy cup spout!

@maybebaby: We also use(d) the cups @lawbee11: suggested and just wanted to let you know that you can also use the NUK bottle nipples on them should the flow still be too fast. http://www.nuk-usa.com/bottles_and_accessories/orthodontic-replacement-nipples/
That way maybe the transition might be easier for him if you upgrade the flow to medium or high before you go with the regular sippy flow.

@lawbee11: I'm not so secretly excited about the idea of him eating more solids to make up for the calories lost--he already is being a lot less picky and messy at mealtime!

@maybebaby: It went smoothly for us as well, so I was pretty surprised. I was expecting it to be a huge battle! The pediatrician told us it's normal for their milk intake to decrease for a week or two during the transition.

@maybebaby: I think that the more bottle like helped R too. She still will sit on the couch and drink her milk or water like it was a bottle if she is in the mood.

@lawbee11: thanks, i'll look into those too! i was so scared it would be a nightmare--was kind of shocked that he doesn't seem too bothered by the complete lack of milk.

@maybebaby: We bottle-weaned cold turkey this weekend, too! LO is still nursing twice a day (morning & before bed), but we cut all other bottles and offered milk. She drank some, but definitely not as much as she drank previously from bottles. We had the most success with these:

@Smurfette: We have this which he won't use but looks like a similar spout--but i wonder if since the one you posted is more "bottle" like that he would go for it? i will give it a try, thanks! http://www.amazon.com/Nuby-Monster-Handle-No-Spill-Sippy/dp/B008RXWCT4/ref=sr_1_3?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1409664602&sr=1-3&keywords=nuby+monster

R wouldn't drink much milk at all from a straw cup. We switched to these and she started downing it. They make a 6M+ version

We cut out bottles cold turkey this weekend for our 15 month old. He currently BFs evenings only, and would take up to 15 oz of WCM a day. He had NO MILK at all this weekend--would let it dribble when it came out and then refuse to take another sip. We made sure he had lots of water and extra yogurt...I think because we've only ever used slowest flow bottle nipples, the fast flow is overwhelming him.

Any recs for slow-flow sippies to ease the transition?
