Weird that the maxi cosi mico isn’t on here. It’s the seat we bought because we had a Mini Cooper when my oldest was born and it’s the only one that fit in the back of the car without the car seat going in sideways (not ideal with a baby in it! 😳). So maybe check that out? It’s 5.5 years old and we’re using it still with our 3rd baby until it expires at the end of the year.

@MaryM: Oh, that's that thought -- maybe I should be concentrating on narrow enough for a center install that doesn't affect the seats rather than short enough. We can't use the Aton as a center install in either of our cars (at least with the base) because it has a load leg that can't be on the hump.

edit: apparently we could install the base without the load leg in use. So, whether with the old seat or a new one, I'll definitely try out a center infant bucket install.

We have a britax B safe. It's an older model than what's currently sold, but it fits in the center of my corolla and both seats can slide forward and back. If it was in a side seat, it would have to be behind mine because I'm short enough and DH isn't. I can still fit if the seat is pulled forward for it, but it's not the most comfortable way to ride!

I just looked through the list Ms. RV shared, we had the Chicco KeyFit 30, not in a small car but it rated in the next smallest group after your seat, and it worked great. The canopy was large, it washes easy, the strap re-threading wasn't any harder than anything else. I also got it super cheap on a Cyber Monday sale from Chicco's website (if you have time to wait until then)

I drive an 06 corolla, and I use the graco snugride 30. I got it because it was the lightest one I could find at a reasonable price. It fit great in my care. But I think gracos might be wide, so I don't know about fitting three across?

Also check out lucieslist.com - I think they have a carseat section for small cars.
Anyways, hope you find something that works!

Same as Ms. Mermaid. I think the directions on the Aton 2 say the cover is machine washable -- but if not, I've been doing it for more than two years with no problems. Agree that the canopy sucks. I clip a blanket to the handle and flip it back over the canopy to extend it.

We have the Aton 2 for the same reason and the canopy sucks but we’ve always machine washed the cover. We are using it again because we have it, but we might just switch to a convertible early.

I used this page when deciding on a bucket. It looks like it was updated this year.

How small is your hatchback? We used a Graco SnugRide 35 for both of our kids in a Nissan Versa.

My 3-year-old had the original Cybex Aton as an infant bucket. At the time, it was the smallest front-to-back seat available and also one of the lighter options. It has some big annoyances though -- the canopy is a complete joke, the straps are very difficult to adjust and tighten, and the cover is hand wash/dry flat only. We'll use it again anyway if we can't find something similarly small front-to-back, but it was really annoying.

I've searched to see if there's an updated version of the guides I consulted to find a small seat when I picked the Aton (both our cars are compact hatchbacks, and now we'll need to have a car seat on both sides). I haven't found anything that's especially up to date.

Anyone have any reference recommendations that I might have missed? Or have a super small infant seat they can personally recommend?
