The capsule really works well for me since I tend to wear the same things over and over, I'm not trendy and I don't have to dress up since I WAH. Someone blogged about it on HB a few months ago and like @T.H.O.U.: said, Pinterest has tons of ideas.

@bluestriped bee: Basically you pick out 30 (or whatever number you want) of items per season and use them to mix and match your wardrobe. Lots of ideas on pinterest if you search. Then at the end of the season (3 months) you can pull out other stuff and change over for the next season.

And like I said I just really focused on basic staple items plus a few funner items to mix in. For lots of mixing and matching. So a basic blouse plus a shirt over or under can change the look at make 2 outfits. Pair it with pants or a skirt and now you've made 6+outfits with 5 items.

I third the capsule wardrobe. We have a normal sized hanging area with one shelf above, and then two sets of cheap plastic shelves for the rest of our clothes. I purged TONS of clothes, and do capsule wardrobes. I have 30+ hangers in the closet with my main clothes and then baskets on the shelves for undergarments, socks, etc. Out of season clothes go on top of the shelves. I have about 5-6 extras (formal dresses, winter coats, wedding dress, etc) hanging in the closet. DH was so impressed on how well I was able to pare down my clothes and make them fit, that I actually convinced him to do a capsule wardrobe too!

@lamariniere: @T.H.O.U.: What's this capsule wardrobe?

@oliviaoblivia: I already swap out seasonal clothes. Though, sometimes, I get behind and just pull clothes out of the tubs.

If you don't already, I would think about hanging another rod (at least in part of the closet). Things like shirts or skirts don't need the full hanging length. Sort of like this: http://www.alexharalson.com/2013/07/hanging-clothes-bar-for-kids-closets.html

@lamariniere: Agree about thinking more about mixing/matching for a capsule wardrobe. Not keeping things that literally only match 1 outfit has helped a ton. I can't say too much though because my closet is still huge.

We have a very small master closet, and a small master bedroom as well, so no room for a wardrobe. We have a platform bed with storage drawers underneath, two on either side. On my husband's side of the bed, he has one drawer for socks and underwear, with a bin dividing them. The other drawer has all if his tshirts and work shirts he's an electrician, so all casual, sturdy clothes.

We have a bookcase in the bedroom as well. Two shelves have my husbands jeans, work pants and pajamas folded on them. One shelf is has baskets for my bras, underwear and socks. The rest of the shelves hold books.

In our teeny tiny closet, I have all of my clothes, most of my shoes, and most of my jackets. Our coat closet is practically non existent, so space is at a premium. The master closet is just one side, with two long shelves, one high up and one not quite shoulder height. Both shelves have closet rods. The top shelf is storage for out of season clothes. The main shelf has all of my pants folded, hanging organizers with most of my folded shirts, and my pajamas. The bottom closet rod has one organizer with my layering tanks, hats, tights, gloves, and flip flops in the summer. The rest of the closet rods holds all of my hanging shirts, my dresses, my skirts, my jackets and sweaters.

The main key for me has been to regularly rotate out anything that's not currently being used. Right now, all of the dresses I can't nurse in are packed away. I'd guess that at any given time about 1/3 of my wardrobe is packed away due to season, what my current job requires and pregnancy/nursing.

I rotate seasonal clothes out. Keep a fairly minimal wardrobe and don't entertain things that no longer fit. We used to have triple the closet space but being judicious in what was worth keeping has made my life easier and house tidier.

We only have a large wardrobe since we literally do not have closets. I have 5 drawers, 2 shelves and 1/2 of the hanging space. I did a huge purge this fall and I'm going to do another purge this spring. Purging and organizing will probably help you get an idea of how much space you really have and you will be able to use the space more efficiently.

I'm also starting to orient my wardrobe to the capsule collection idea, and that has been a huge improvement for my clothes in addition to saving space.

I have some (ok, most...) of my clothes in the guest bedroom, but I need to free up some space. DH folds most of his clothes and I hang most of mine. Our small (non-walk in) closet is split in half, but I think I need take more of DH's hanging space. I also have top closet shelves that I need to put together.

Also, I think I need to get rid of stuff that I will never fit in.
