Story of my life while living abroad. We literally lived in a tiny village of less than 1000 people. Anywho, it wasn't for me and we moved.

We live in a small city (around 100k pop) and while we have TONS of "pediatricians" not one would we take our children to... we're actually considering a Family Practitioner b/c we feel we'll get a better overall care from them. (we'll likely go out of town though, 2+ hours away, to find a more progressive provider)

I do miss some of the amenities that came with the larger city like the classes, whole foods, and just overall more variety/selection BUT I don't miss the cost of living or the stress of commute... 10 minutes to drive across town to get home vs. 1+ hours is golden!

It'll take some getting used to but I think over time it'll grow on you more. ;)

Oh yeah. Luckily for me we live 15 minutes from a bigger city so there are pediatricians and such. But no mommy and baby classes or anything like that.

I grew up in a small town and there are some perks too. Those family doctors will get to know you, your husband, and your child pretty well. They obviously treat kids all the time so they are up to date. And they know when to make reccomendations out.

In small towns you get to know your kids friends and their parents. As a kind it was hard to pull anything because everyone in town knew your parents. And small towns are generally safer.

I know it must be an adjustment, moving away from that kind of lifestyle took a while to get use to. I hope you can settle in and it won't seem too bad.

Yup that is a small town. There are some advantages too like knowing everyone. And for us we just drive to those things. 2 hours each way for gymnastics. And we can be life delighted if necesary for medical emergencies.

This past year we moved away from a big city on the west coast, to a small town in the middle of Iowa for my job. There are certain things that I really like about our new home, but there are other things that I just can't get past. For example, there are no pediatricians here, only family doctors. Similarly, there is no pediatric urgent care. There are no mommy-baby yoga classes (which I loved in California). And just now I called to make a dentist appointment for my daughter, and they said they normally don't see babies until age 3! I know that the current recommendation is supposed to be before the age of 1. Sometimes I feel like I've fallen into a time warp, and it can be hard to parent in a modern way in such a small and isolated place.

I know this is a rather disjointed rant, but I'm wondering if anyone else can relate...
