Well when I make smoothies I like them thick and frozen so smoothie packs in the freezer would be me thing, but my son can't suck up smoothies that thick. Mostly he needs a soupy thin smoothie so if I were making it for him and me, I'd just throw all the ingredients in the blender jar the night before and blend in the morning and maybe add some ice cubes if I want a little slush.

For him and me I would do a cup of mixed frozen fruit, a splash of milk or a blob of whole milk yogurt, a splash of orange juice, and a banana with a spoonful of ground flaxseed meal or chia seed meal. If I have greens then I would add a fistful of that too. I'm always looking to bulk his calories so I would also add a spoonful of coconut oil. Then I would thin with more milk as needed.

My own personal smoothie would be frozen fruit, frozen banana, OJ, yogurt, flax and possibly a scoop of protein powder.

We do smoothie packs in the freezer with a banana, frozen mixed berries, kale, spinach, and peanut butter. Then we put in the blender with milk, oats and protein powder. It makes smoothies so much easier in the mornings.

I do the smoothie packs, like you mentioned, in ziplock bags in the freezer. Then, I put them in the blender with some whole milk yogurt and almond milk. For my smoothies, my go to is 1 banana, some strawberries and blueberries, chia seeds, ground flax seed, yogurt and almond milk. Recently, I've also been including spinach and 1/2 an avocado. My daughter loves them and it's a great way to get things into her diet that she normally wouldn't eat (like avocado). Silly girl will eat spinach straight up!

Single serve blenders and limited ingredients.

The blender I use is: https://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-51102-Single-Serve-Blender/dp/B002EJHEPO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466038312&sr=8-1&keywords=single+serve+blender+glass

I only use like 4-5 ingredients: protein powder, frozen fruit, milk/water, and sometimes nut butter. But I don't premeasure into bags.

I don't make them ahead because I really hate the texture when I do. In the refrigerator they get too soupy and in the freezer they're rock solid.

I didn't even think of those ideas, but we also always use bananas (easy to peel), frozen for all the other fruit (no slicing or washing), and pre-washed baby spinach or kale.

We also only really use two "recipes", and they both use the same "base": two bananas, couple handfuls of kale/spinach, and almond or coconut milk. Then we add either more frozen fruit, or a couple spoonfuls of peanut butter. It's basically motor memory now since we make them so often so it's really quick.
