@birdofafeather: I know around here it's common for moms to put baby cereal in a bottle and just cut the nipple a little bigger to accommodate...I'm not sure if she did that, but I'm assuming, that's a possibility.

@Arden: I'm not sure just how old the baby was, but most of the time teen mom starts around the time the babies are 1, maybe a little younger...10 months?

@Cole: that's so true, I don't think I would have been as shocked if it was in a pouch. Interesting that presentation alone changes the perspective of the whole meal. (:

@swurlygurl: I definitely see giving her smoothies with fresh fruit, I've just never seen someone make it with purées. It caught me so off guard.

I'm glad I was able to ask on here since I guess in retrospect it doesn't seem as bad as when I first saw it. It makes more sense now that I think about it in terms of a full meal and not just a bottle full of purée and milk. (:

At a year old, I think I will definitely be giving my baby a smoothie. No cereal, but various fruits and veggies

Strange, I guess if it isn't meant to replace a normal feeding it is fine? I guess really, if she put it in one of those refillable pouches for the baby I would just consider it relatively normal so I guess it isn't that big of a deal. Plus with as fast as some pediatricians toss out a prescription for miralax at least she tried prunes first!

Odd. It could be worse. At least the child is older (one you said?) so it's not like she's putting this in a teeny baby's bottle, right?

I would think its too thick for a bottle too. Combo seems weird but I was thinking breast milk not cows milk!

@HLK208: right? I wasn't sure if I was missing something with the purée/milk combination. I guess it just really caught me off guard and was wondering if it's because she's young? Who told her to do that? I wondered if others had ever thought to do that...hmmm. Weird.

@hellocupcake: that's an odd combination. A purée in a bottle? It would be too thick I would imagine. Dairy makes people more constipated so I don't know why she would add the milk. I also always heard baby cereal in a bottle is a big no-no. I usually gave more water and heated prune purée when DD was constipated (6-8 months).

I've made fruit/veggie smoothies for DD since she was about 9 months and had already tried the fruits and veggies without a reaction (banana, kale, blueberries and Greek yogurt). She did fine with them in a straw cup. She never used a bottle since they were so thick.

I was watching Teen Mom 3, don't judge me, and saw that one of the moms gave her daughter a bottle with purées prunes (because she hasn't pooped), baby cereal (to thicken it), and milk.

Is that appropriate? I'm genuinely curious. I was under the impression that cereal in the bottle is a big fat no, but I've never heard of anyone putting purées in with milk...I guess it's like a baby smoothie...does that make it okay?

The baby is maybe a year old or younger, if that makes a difference? :/
