I lived on avocado on toast and bagels with cream cheese for the first 12 weeks (and occasionally I'd crave greens and steam up a massive bowl of broccoli!) Good luck! I ate normally for 8 weeks and now at 20 weeks my appetite is OUT. OF. CONTROL. I'm a monster.

Hi! I'm going to diverge from everyone else and make a suggestion (though ask your doc first).
I read somewhere that early on it's not really hunger that we feel. It's actually excess stomach acid (a side effect of pregnancy) that causes us to feel hungry, even if we're constantly eating.

For both pregnancies I was constantly hungry pretty early on. The first time I just ate and ate. The 2nd time I saw this thing about stomach acid and asked my doc about it. I started with tums which didn't help (though you should try that first because it might work for you and tums are totally safe during pregnancy). So then I started zantac with her permission and it helped a TON. THe burn-y hungry feeling was significantly reduced. I still ate small snacks quite often, but the zantac took me out of my misery. It was finally tolerable.

I am so not a doctor and I would only suggest asking about Zantac if you become desperate. (ie no matter what or how often you eat you feel no relief). For me it got to the point that i was crying all the time because I felt miserable. A constant hunger I could never satisfy.

Good luck!

@Chastenet: just eat what sounds good for now. I couldn't do yogurts or cheese at the beginning which was hard because I love both! Around 12 or 13 weeks I started feeling hungry and less nausea and have been able to branch out more with my food choices! ;)

@winniebee: I think you're right that I should be eating more often. If I get really hungry then I start to feel sick, and then once I eat I can't finish my food because I wasn't feeling so hot, so I end up never getting full. I'm going to make a conscious effort to have many little snacks.
@MrsMccarthy: Yes to hummus and pita - will have to get some of that.
@SupernovaJ: @sarac: @jhd: @Ash: @PurplePeony: My problem is so many things just sound gross right now...Normally I LOVE yogurt, and eat it every day but lately...Yuck. :)

Everyone who is suggesting cheese - that sounds awesome and is on my grocery list for tomorrow!

@Mrsjets: This sounds delicious - care to send me some? ;)
@Arden: Mmmm guacamole!
@Emsmems: Been having pb sandwiches just about every day for a quick fix.

I live on nuts and string cheese because of my gd issues. But also peanut m&ms are good because the carbs and protein balance out pretty well when I need a sugar fix.

Yogurt (especially Greek bc it has more protein)
Honeycrisp apples

I'm 14 weeks and just now starting to feel hungry. Carbs were about all I could handle for weeks because of nausea. Right now yogurt & apples are my fave snacks. I tend to eat the same thing over and over til I start craving something new bit maybe I'm just weird! ;)

Do you have a fridge? I usually buy a big tub of yogurt (sometimes Greek and sometimes regular) and scoop some out when I'm hungry. I also keep some granola in my office to mix into it. The Greek kind especially helps me feel full for quite awhile.

That was me with my son. I had to eat every hour. Nuts, fruit, granola bars, vegetable juice (that was good for first thing in the morning), peanut butter. The key for me was staying ahead of the hunger. After I was hungry I felt nauseous!
