@LAZB: We just did two 11h flights with our 3 year old and 14m old. We took raisins and dried cranberries, crackers, pouches, millet pops and rice wafers. Definitely stay away from sugar. And you can bring a bottle of water for your LO from home.

We flew when LO was around that age and I had bought everything I found at Target that was Happy Baby brand - puffs, yogurts melts, creamies (like the yogurt ones but coconut), and fruit/veggie crisps. DH and I thought the snacks were all super weird but she was obsessed with all of them. Thank god we had so many too because she got sick during our trip and at some points, they were the only thing she'd eat.

For DD's first flight as a toddler...only 3 hours...I had a small "gift" for every 30 mins - so I could keep saying "be good so you get your next surprise"...

Some of what we wrapped were the snacks she only gets to have on special occasions (fruit snacks, frosted animal crackers, m&ms)...

We kept the "surprises" in separate parts of her backpack - we let her pick them...so like every third one was a food surprise - so we didnt load her with sugar!

String cheese, cereal bars (earth's best makes some good ones) and rice cakes. Also whole wheat crackers (Ritz makes some and we get that brand Breton). He loves to crunch on them and anything that he can take bites of takes up more time!
Also newly into pretzel sticks (the small skinny ones that come in individual packs, not the big rods).

I have had the best luck when I bring stuff that is factory sealed or a fruit that's in it's skin, like a banana or orange.

I've brought cereal bars, those small packages of peanut butter and crackers, laughing cow cheese wedges, cheerios cups, sealed packages of milk, cookies as a treat.

DS likes Goldfish in the pretzel and graham flavors (less a fan of the cheese), puffs, melts, raisins, pouches that are less likely to stain (i.e. applesauce/banana type pouches and not the bright red or green kind), apple cinnamon flavor rice cakes (they are big and take a while to gnaw on).

I also always carry some Dum Dum lollipops in my purse when we fly. It helps with their ears on takeoff or landing and if he gets really worked up, it buys me like 15 minutes of peace.

In the terminal, DS loves French fries, some kind of juice or smoothie (I usually get one and share it with him), and we try to feed him something more nutrient dense, like scrambled eggs or meat since so much of his snacks on the plane are sugar/carb/empty.

We brought a DVD player with a headband headset, a few board books, some animal figurines, a ball that lights up when you bounce it, some kind of jangly/crinkling toy, and a small tin cookie sheet with magnets on it. On the back of the cookie sheet I taped a piece of paper and gave DS a big crayon. He really hates flying, so I don't know how helpful the toys were overall, it was just buying like 60 seconds of distraction at a time.

Let them run off as much energy before the flight as possible and don't forget to keep them drinking plenty of milk and water.

We found freeze dried fruit to be great for flights, easy to transport and not messy. Toddler cereal bars? Annie's Organic makes little rabbit shaped cookies that my son is addicted to.

We took LO1 on a long flight when she was 15 months old. I put snacks and small toys inside Easter eggs and LO really enjoyed it. It took up more time than it would have and I didn't have a bunch of half eaten bags of snacks. We took goldfish, pretzels, grapes, clementines, pouches, Nibbly bars, plum toddler cereal bars, and peanut butter sandwiches.

P LOVES this. One side you can "paint" with your fingers and the other side has crayons. We just use the mess free side for now so that would pass time on the plane!

We usually do easy stuff like cheez-its and animal crackers. Pouches are a great idea too. DD also really likes the pumpkin bread from Starbucks so I'll usually grab one of those in the terminal for the plane.

We are going on an eight hour flight this weekend, and I am trying to be as prepared with snacks and toys/activities as possible. L (14 months) LOVES to eat, so I think snacks will be super important in keeping her happy. I still cut everything up for her because I'm paranoid about choking, but what are some snacks that you think might be good for the plane? I'm definitely bringing pouches, goldfish, yogurt melts, and some fruit.
Also, if you have toy/activity suggestions, I'll welcome those too :)
