I ALWAYS get a tech gift that I do not expect which I generally end up liking. My step mom always complained about having to fill her own stocking so I think DH got the hint early on and has been filling mine with little things. I also don’t do adult stockings because I can’t deal with more little stuff to do and would definitely have to do my own. My MIL always did her own stocking when she was still with us and I found it so depressing. But I guess her total gift obsession (she had a buying compulsion) did help DH see he should do something, at least for Christmas. I totally send him a list with links and request one from him, because he can’t plan ahead, even though he has good intentions, so if I don’t I will get very little or it won’t be useful things. I think he’s learned something though because I guess FIL wanted to give me a pan and he told him you should only give a woman a pan if she specifically asked for it. This year I took it as an opportunity to buy myself Glossier lip balm and a new little pouch for make up, so I'm totally fine with it :happy:<br /> @lindseykaye: and @catgirl: I had a few things on my holiday wishlist that I didn't get that I really wanted (DH's family mostly buy off this and insist that we make them), so i just asked DH if i could just buy myself a couple of things for my birthday next month instead of him getting me anything. I about fell out of my chair thinking "omg, he actually got me something?" He comes back with a piece of folded printer paper, and I'm thinking, "please say it says post-COVID trip to Hawaii" 😂. When I "open" my (only) gift, it has "youtube premium subscription" scribbled on it. Mind you, he wasn't actually getting me a youtube premium subscription, it was a joke because a few minutes earlier, we were listening to Christmas music on free Spotify and there was a commercial for a vaginal spermicide. The description of side effects prompted our two year old to ask "what does vaginal burning mean?" 😂😂😂 So yeah, I'd probably take a robe. But let's be honest, DH would just "borrow" it when he got out of the shower and he couldn't find his... I made DH watch it.</p> <p>@lindseykaye: I started doing this a few years ago. It honestly makes the day so much better for me. DH is bad at gifts -my gifts would be things I didn't want or like and my stocking would be only candy and lip balm. I would always be disappointed and annoyed. When I do it myself our stockings all appear more equal and I get exactly what I want.
