@woodentulip: Safe travels tomorrow, we haven't been cancelled yet, but things aren't looking too promising. AC cancelled the sametime flight to Halifax, where they are calling for worse weather than here, so we aren't too optimistic at this point!

@woodentulip: Our flight is at 7:15, but WestJet, so different terminal (I think?) otherwise a potential run-in could have been cool :) Safe travels!!

Just checked the weather again...now it appears to be expected to come mostly as rain! Ahhh....Ontario winters and all the slush they bring...we're sticking to Sunday...and we shall see how it goes!

@Beebug: Maybe we will see you at the airport! We are supposed to leave first thing at 8:00 am!

Looked at weather network, and it looks like Fri and Sat are going to be the worst for accumulation. We fly first thing Sunday, so can only hope the clean up is done, risk we'll take I guess, oye!

We're flying Calgary to Toronto on Sunday! I would keep the flight booked because the snow delays tend to happen more on the front end of the storm than the tail end, but I hate change.

Mondays looking decent, so I'd say change your flight...you don't want to deal with the airline day of. We're driving out of Toronto for the holidays and we decided to leave tomorrow afternoon to avoid it! We used to fly to Calgary at Christmas, but my parents just moved back to Ontario...have fun in the mountains. I miss them!

@woodentulip: Yikes! Hoping for your sake the storm is delayed. DH would suggest that mom & baby go earlier to avoid the storm and he'd go after work. Is that something you'd consider?

We have a bunch but not as much as some years. We got 10-14 cm just last week. The city is still plowing out of that.

This is our front yard. If I stood in the snow bank it would be above my knee!

@MrsScottish: Yes-- I'd rather have a confirmed seat than risk stand by by waiting, especially this close to Christmas with giant storms coming. (This is coming from someone who was delayed 5 days getting home from Christmas one year, and even that took a lot of finagling and cancelling and booking new flights.)

Thanks for the notes...

The snow is hitting on this end in Toronto, so it is the delay out that we are worried about (well, and the drive into the mountains after...ahhh!).

I will see about getting a confirmed flight for Monday...we can't leave tomorrow--my husband is working through this week and really has to!

Thanks for those thoughts, ladies!

I am from Winterpeg!! I totally understand!! Like previous poster said, anyway you can leave early?? Or reschedule until Monday?? Get a confirmed seat on flight out on Monday instead of getting pushed over into stand by??

Can you leave early, like Thursday, and get there before the storm hits? Where is your family located-- are they in the mountains or in Calgary? If in Calgary, maybe you could still stay with them even if you can't make the drive up to the mountains for a few more days?

I'm a total baby about driving in snow, but I feel like Canadians are a little heartier than me when it comes to that :)

We are supposed to fly from Toronto to Calgary and then drive into the mountains on Sunday, where we will spend a week with family over Christmas.

At the same time, Toronto is supposed to get hit with a pretty big storm on Fri-Sat-Sun and up to a foot of snow. The airline we are flying (Air Canada) is waiving change fees already for those who need to reschedule. What would you do? Reschedule now and mess up time with family? Or risk travel on Sunday after the big dump of snow and potential freezing rain? Ahhhh!!! As if Christmas travel isn't stressful enough...throwing mother nature into the mix really messes it up!
