I remember not finding out about snow days until the morning of. It seems like where I live now, they cancel school at the slightest hint of snow.

I grew up in New Zealand. I had one. Ever.

Now I live in the snow belt (northern ohio) and teach. Today is our fourth this year, and we've also been closed for illness and for a power outage.

Oh- and while snow days with the kids home trapped inside are rough, I definitely prefer that to driving to pick her up early in treacherous conditions! And I appreciate that DH can easily work from home on bad weather days instead of having to risk driving.

How does the amount of snow days you/ your kids have now compare with what you remember from growing up?

I grew up in a similar climate to where I live now (a little less snow but a little less equipped to deal with it, all northeast US). It feels like the number of snow days we have is pretty similar, but I can't remember them canceling school the night before, before it had even started snowing, at all. This winter I feel like every time we have a snow day it's been announced the night before. I'm wondering if they realized how much easier it is on parents and safer it is tokeep people off the roads, or weather predictions have gotten better and more reliable?

But no wearing pajamas backwards and jumping on the bed hoping for a snow day for us!
