eBay has some super duper cheap name brand snowsuits with tags. Some even have Velcro on top shoulders so it grows with them and may last more than one season.

I agree with having both - shop away! :) We have a one piece made by Columbia that we bought through amazon. It actually has 2 parts, a lining that is fleece and zips into the coat-texture snow/water resistant outer part. I really like this because we can put the fleece liner on LO for walks in the stroller when it is cool in the spring or fall and not put a blanket around him which invariably ends up on the ground. But if we are going somewhere in the car we usually just throw a coat on him.

C is 19 months and we mostly just use the puffy coat. She has cheap snow pants for playing in the snow, or being in the carrier on super cold days, but in the stroller it's just the coat. I didn't want to buy too many things since she won't fit any of it next year. There have been a handful of times that a one piece would be helpful but I'm glad we focused on a nice warm coat that I really like and cheap snow pants.

That said, this winter we had hardly any snow at all, then a storm dumped three feet of snow and it just kept coming, so there was no playing in the playground at all (it was taller than her! Snow pants can't help that!) if there was just a little snow on the ground I may have felt differently.

Thanks ladies! I would've thought a one piece would be easier, so I'm glad I asked. With my older daughter I tend to do what lamariniere does and use snowpants for all outdoor play once there is snow on the ground. We just don't have things in the appropriate size since we were In Hong Kong during LO1's second winter.

@lamariniere: you don't have to tell me twice - both it is! thank you for enabling my over-shopping :) :)

I think both are good to have. I put my daughter in the snowsuit for playing in the park so that she doesn't get dirty and her legs stay warm. In the stroller, I normally just use the coat since we have a warm foot muff.

If she was just going to the car, she wore the coat from her 2-piece snowsuit. If she was outside for any length of time, she wore the skipants with it.

We usually put my 16 month old in a short puffer coat and snowpants. I am thinking of getting a longer parka type coat for her next year. The one piece snowsuits are too annoying to deal with!

I'm trying to shop the winter sales for my girls to get done great deals on outerwear for next year. I am trying to decide: will my (then) 18 month old better off in a long parka or a 1-piece snowsuit for day to day wear?

She'll be 17-20 months in the coldest part of our winter, so potty training is probably not a huge concern. She has a shorter coat and separate snowpants being handed down from big sis which will be on the big side but will work for sledding and snow play

If you live in a cold climate, what did your LO wear for outerwear at this age?
